(DC Pundit) – Senator Chuck Schumer’s secret rendezvous with President Joe Biden at his Delaware beach house on July 13, 2024, turned out to be more dramatic than anyone could have imagined. The meeting, which took place just before a botched assassination attempt on now President-elect Donald Trump, has since been dubbed “The Beach House Ultimatum” by political pundits.
The New York Times, ever the bastion of journalistic discretion, reported that Schumer had come armed with this message: “If you run and you lose to Trump, and we lose the Senate, and we don’t get back the House, that 50 years of amazing, beautiful work goes out the window,” Schumer said, according to The Times. “But worse — you go down in American history as one of the darkest figures.”
You can almost hear the ominous music swelling in the background as Schumer delivered his political death knell: “If I were you, I wouldn’t run, and I’m urging you not to run.”
Schumer, channeling his inner Vegas bookie, informed Biden that his internal pollsters gave him a whopping 5 percent chance of winning against Trump.
In a moment of apparent desperation, Biden reportedly asked Schumer if he thought Kamala Harris could actually win.
Shortly after Schumer’s dire warning, at 6:11 pm, Trump miraculously survived an assassination attempt. Trump was shot in the ear after he turned his head at the last millisecond to look at a chart covering illegal immigration.

The New York Times, in its inimitable style, painted a picture of Schumer’s journey to deliver this political bombshell: “Senator Chuck Schumer of New York sat in the foyer of President Biden’s Rehoboth Beach house, tired and tense. He had not slept the night before, and on the four-hour drive from Brooklyn to Delaware, he had rehearsed out loud what he planned to say, reviewing notecards as he prepared for what he thought might be the most high-stakes speech he would ever give, to an audience of one.”
One can imagine Schumer, bleary-eyed and caffeine-fueled, practicing his speech to an audience of unimpressed toll booth operators and confused gas station attendants along the way.
About a week afterward, Biden dropped out of the 2024 race and endorsed Kamala Harris, who would later lose in a landslide to Trump.
In the high-stakes game of presidential politics, sometimes the house loses – especially if that house happens to be at Number One Observatory Circle in northwestern Washington, D.C.
