(DC Pundit) – It looks like Nancy Pelosi isn’t ready to hang up her political hat just yet. The 84-year-old Democratic powerhouse from San Francisco has thrown her hat in the ring for the 2026 election. You heard that right – she’s planning to stick around well into her late 80s.
Now, you might think after President-elect Donald Trump’s big win and the Republicans snagging both the Senate and the House, Pelosi would be ready to call it quits. But nope, she’s digging in her heels. Word on the street is that she’s doing “terrible” after the election results, but that’s not stopping her from looking ahead to 2026.
Pelosi’s been a fixture in the House since 1987, winning her 20th term just last week. That’s right, she’s been in Congress longer than some of her colleagues have been alive. She’s had two stints as Speaker of the House, from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023. Now, according to the Federal Election Commission, she’s gearing up for another round.
When the New York Times asked her if this term would be her last, Pelosi played coy. She told them, “I’m not here to talk about that. I’m here to fight the fight so that we win in the next election. I must have thought I had the last term over and over again, but as fate would have it, the mission called.”
It’s worth noting that Pelosi and Trump have quite the history. She was one of his biggest thorns in the side during his first term when she was Speaker. And she’s already voicing her concerns about him being back in the White House.
This time around, though, things will be different. For the first time since George W. Bush’s first term, Pelosi won’t be in a leadership position during a Republican administration.
Some are pointing fingers at Pelosi for Biden’s failed reelection bid, though she’s denying any major role in that debacle.
So, there you have it. The San Francisco mother of five is ready for another political battle. Will she still have the fight in her come 2026? Only time will tell.
