(DC Pundit) – In the kind of story that would be front-page news if a Republican had done it, a Texas judge just pulled off a maneuver that reeks of corruption, but the national media couldn’t be bothered.
Down in South Texas, voters in the state’s 28th Congressional District, home to Laredo and the busiest trade port with Mexico, are still waiting for answers in a race marked by allegations and affidavits.
Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), now in his 11th term in Congress, is under federal indictment. He and his wife allegedly accepted more than $600,000 in payments from foreign sources between 2014 and 2021. Not from lemonade stands or book deals, but from an Azerbaijani state-owned oil company and a Mexican bank. A real international grab bag.
Three of Cuellar’s top aides have reportedly flipped and are cooperating with prosecutors, yet Cuellar marched right back onto the 2024 ballot with barely a peep from the media or any real pushback from his party.
After the election, Republican challenger Jay Furman did what any self-respecting candidate would do when something smells off, he contested the results. He submitted over 80 affidavits and hundreds of sworn declarations from voters who said Furman’s name was nowhere to be found on their ballots. These weren’t anonymous tips or social media rants. These were formal, signed statements made under penalty of perjury.
A Texas appellate court took it seriously, at first. The Fourth Court of Appeals ordered Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina to launch an immediate forensic ballot review.
Tijerina refused.
Instead of a proper recount, Furman’s challenge was tossed aside like last week’s junk mail. And wouldn’t you know it? The very same Judge Tijerina, who blocked the review, is now “considering” a run for that very same congressional seat. That’s right: the referee decided to bench one team, call the game early, and then announced he’s suiting up to play.
You’d think this would raise some eyebrows. But not a single major media outlet has touched the story. Not one investigative reporter has asked the obvious: why was a judge with a direct conflict of interest allowed to decide the outcome?
Then come the numbers. Donald Trump won the district by 7 points in 2024. Yet Cuellar supposedly won his race, on the same day, on the same machines, by 5 points. That’s a 13-point swing for those keeping score. Explain that without a recount.
Furman remains in limbo, still waiting on the official recount certification from the Texas Secretary of State, one that was mistakenly sent to the wrong congressional committee.
Meanwhile, the media elite, so eager to amplify every fabricated whisper of Trump-Russia collusion, have nothing to say about a judge blocking a recount and then running for Congress. Silence is the new strategy.
This isn’t just about South Texas. If election integrity is optional, democracy becomes theater. And Americans aren’t buying tickets anymore.
