(DC Pundit) – In a horrifying incident that’s left a Virginia community stunned, Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler was doused with gasoline and deliberately set on fire inside a local office on Tuesday. The attacker, identified as 29-year-old Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, is now in police custody.
According to eyewitness accounts and local reports, the attack occurred while Vogler was visiting the offices of Showcase Magazine, a local publication in Danville. Andrew Brooks, the magazine’s owner and publisher, posted a video on Facebook detailing the harrowing event.
“Lee attempted to flee, ran to the front of the building,” Brooks explained. “The individual followed him and set him on fire.”

It sounds like something out of a crime thriller, but this was terrifyingly real. Hayes allegedly barged into the office carrying a five-gallon container of gasoline, then proceeded to throw the gas on Vogler before igniting it. As flames erupted, Vogler managed to escape the building but suffered serious injuries in the process.
He was airlifted to the UNC Burn Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he is currently being treated. Thankfully, according to Brooks and other reports, Vogler was “awake and talking” during the emergency transport — a small miracle considering the brutality of the assault.
The Daily Mail confirmed that Hayes forced his way into the building and pursued Vogler to the front entrance before setting him ablaze. The motive behind the attack has not yet been publicly disclosed by authorities.
Vogler has served multiple terms on the Danville City Council and has been known for his strong stance on conservative principles, economic growth, and community revitalization. His work in the region has earned him the respect of many voters, and, apparently, the attention of at least one deranged criminal.
While the full details of the investigation are still unfolding, the sheer audacity and violence of this attack have already raised concerns about the safety of public officials, especially those who refuse to cave to the pressures of the radical left or remain silent on controversial issues.
Sadly, attacks on conservatives are no longer rare outliers. From harassment at restaurants to vandalism and now physical violence, the growing hostility toward right-leaning officials in America is becoming more dangerous by the day.
