(DC Pundit) – Apparently, shaking hands with the President of the United States is now a cardinal sin in the Democratic Party, at least if that president is Donald J. Trump.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, once hailed by her party as a rising star and potential future presidential contender, may have just torched her own political fan club with one simple move: acting like an adult. This week, Whitmer visited the White House and was photographed standing—brace yourselves—next to President Trump during a signing ceremony. You’d think she committed treason based on the way her fellow Democrats responded.
“Just a f—ing disaster,” an anonymous Democratic operative told NBC News, clearly having a full-blown meltdown. This same operative supposedly supports Whitmer… well, at least they did before she committed the unpardonable act of being seen in the same zip code as Trump.
To be clear, Whitmer didn’t run into the Oval Office waving a MAGA flag. She was there to discuss real issues affecting her state. You know, the kind of thing governors are elected to do. In any rational political climate, a governor working with the president, regardless of party, would be seen as productive. But we’re dealing with Democrats in 2025, where being seen with Trump is worse than being caught with a plastic straw at a climate rally.
Even more scandalous, Whitmer admitted she agrees with Trump on some things. And just like that, her progressive credentials are now in question. According to reports, some on the Left are accusing her of being used as a “political prop.” The irony, of course, is that the same people making that accusation are the ones who routinely trot out celebrities and TikTok influencers to lecture America on “democracy.”

This entire outrage circus is yet another reminder of how disconnected the Democratic Party has become from the real world. Regular Americans expect their leaders to work together to solve problems, not throw tantrums because someone stood too close to Trump at a photo op.
What’s next? Will they call for her resignation because she didn’t spit on the carpet before entering the Oval Office?
Democrats had better come to terms with reality: Trump is not only the president again—he’s here to stay. And unless they’re planning to move to Canada (again), they’ll have to start facing the fact that occasionally cooperating with him might be necessary for the sake of, you know, governing.
Politics isn’t supposed to be about purity tests and petty outrage. It’s about results. And while the Left is busy drafting angry responses, President Trump is in the White House doing what he was elected to do—lead.
