(DC Pundit) – Remember how we were all told, repeatedly, that election fraud wasn’t happening and that mail-in voting was secure beyond all doubt? Well, someone forgot to send that memo to Vicki Stuart.
Stuart, a 64-year-old former U.S. Postal Service substitute carrier from Mesa County, Colorado, pled guilty on May 5 to identity theft and forgery after admitting to stealing and submitting mail-in ballots during the 2024 presidential election. That’s right, this wasn’t some conspiracy theory. This actually happened.
Working alongside her partner-in-crime, Sally Jane Maxedon, Stuart cooked up a scheme to intercept mail-in ballots before they could reach actual voters. According to court documents, they then forged signatures and submitted the fraudulent ballots to the state, claiming they were just trying to “test” Colorado’s signature verification system. Ah yes, just two concerned citizens running an impromptu integrity audit, by committing felonies.
At least 12 ballots were stolen in total. Of those, three managed to slip through the signature verification process and were counted as legitimate votes. The fraud came to light only after voters began reporting that their ballots had already been counted, despite never receiving them. That’s what you might call a red flag, or as election officials prefer to phrase it: “an anomaly.”

Stuart abused her access as a postal worker to identify mail-in ballots, plucking them from the system before they could be delivered. Maxedon, apparently not one to let an opportunity for voter fraud go to waste, took over from there, filling out the ballots and forging voter signatures with all the precision of a teenager forging a parent’s signature on a bad report card.
If this was a “test,” then congratulations to Colorado’s election system—three forged ballots passed with flying colors.
As part of a plea deal, Stuart will serve no more than nine years in prison, although we all know how that tends to shake out in practice. Given how quickly some in the justice system hand out slaps on the wrist for politically inconvenient crimes, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she’s out before the next ballot drop.
And while some in the media keep insisting that voter fraud is rarer than a unicorn sighting, cases like this tell a different story. Even if this wasn’t a massive, coordinated effort, it still shows just how easy it is for someone with access and intent to compromise an election, especially when ballots are floating through the mail like discount coupons.
Republicans have long warned that universal mail-in voting, especially when combined with poor oversight and weak signature checks, opens the door for fraud. This case proves them right. The only thing more predictable than Stuart’s conviction is the media’s deafening silence about it.
Let’s be honest, if the political roles were reversed here and this fraud had favored Trump, it would be headline news for weeks with round-the-clock pundit panels and dramatic violins playing in the background.
Instead, it’s just another example swept under the rug, chalked up to an “isolated incident.”
Call it what you want, but if we’re supposed to trust our elections, we might want to make sure people like Stuart don’t have the keys to the ballot box.
