(DC Pundit) – New York State prison guards at Marcy Correctional Facility have found themselves in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
On Friday, the New York Attorney General’s office released bodycam footage of guards fatally beating a handcuffed prisoner.
Our unfortunate inmate in this grim tale is Robert Brooks, a 43-year-old serving 12-years for assaulting his girlfriend. Brooks, who had been behind bars since 2017, probably thought his stay couldn’t get any worse. It did. On December 9th, Brooks was beaten by the very people tasked with maintaining order and safety. He died the following day.
The footage, described as “graphic”, shows officers kicking and punching Brooks. The autopsy, obtained by WKTV, reads: “preliminary findings show concern for asphyxia due to compression of the neck as the cause of death, as well as the death being due to actions of another.”
Be warned, the body camera video of a New York State prison guard beat-up squad beating and choking Robert Brooks to death is brutal. Its worse than George Floyd.https://t.co/D9FXepjgkW pic.twitter.com/KNoUrScxRU

The officers’ bodycams were not activated and placed in ‘standby mode,’ conveniently failing to capture any audio. 14 workers, including officers and a prison nurse, are in the process of being fired. It seems the prison administration has decided that beating inmates to death isn’t part of the job description. Who knew?
The New York Attorney General’s office continues its investigation into this fatal beating. One can only hope that justice will be served, although for Robert Brooks, it comes far too late.
