‘Guns-a-Blazing’: Trump Warns That U.S. Troops May Strike Nigeria Over Deadly Attacks On Christians

(DC Pundit) – President Donald Trump isn’t holding back when it comes to the brutal persecution of Christians in Nigeria — and his warning to that nation’s leaders was loud and clear: stop the slaughter, or face the full force of the United States military.

In a fiery Truth Social post, President Trump directed the Department of War to “prepare for possible action,” declaring that if the U.S. intervenes, “it will be fast, vicious, and sweet.” The president also vowed to cut off “all aid and assistance to Nigeria” should its government continue turning a blind eye to the ongoing wave of Christian killings by radical Islamist militants.

Trump’s warning follows his repeated statements that Christians are “facing an existential threat in Nigeria,” where “thousands of Christians are being killed.” The president has long criticized global leaders for ignoring this crisis, calling it one of the most underreported human rights catastrophes in the world.

“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter,” Trump wrote Friday. “I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN’ — But that is the least of it. When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like it happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 Worldwide), something must be done!”

That’s not just talk. Trump officially designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, a move that could open the door to sanctions or direct U.S. intervention. He also instructed Rep. Riley Moore (R-WV) and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) to “immediately look into this matter” and report back with recommendations.

While Trump’s decisive stance was welcomed by many Christian advocacy groups, Nigeria’s leadership responded with defensive outrage. Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Maitama Tuggar pushed back, insisting there was no genocide taking place. “For the avoidance of any doubt, and out of respect for all the victims and survivors around the world of this unique and appalling crime against humanity, let the record show that there is no genocide, now or ever, in Nigeria,” Tuggar said in a statement to Newsweek.

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a Muslim, went even further — calling the allegations of persecution “a lie from the pit of hell.” That kind of denial might play well at home, but the international community is increasingly skeptical.

Meanwhile, Trump’s tough talk drew praise from an unlikely corner — rapper Nicki Minaj — who commended him for “taking the matter of the mass slaughter of Christians in Nigeria seriously.” Her comments added a dose of pop culture attention to a crisis that global media outlets have largely ignored.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has also been outspoken about the “mass murder of Christians by Islamist jihadists” in Nigeria, calling it a moral outrage that demands U.S. leadership.

For now, the message from the Oval Office couldn’t be clearer: the persecution of Christians is a red line. Under Trump’s leadership, America isn’t going to sit back and watch innocent believers be slaughtered while world leaders hide behind diplomatic excuses. If Nigeria’s government won’t act — Trump has made it clear — the United States just might.

  1. I lived and worked in Northern Nigeria as a missionary from 2004 to 2013. I worked among the Christian community as well as the Muslim community. I lived in Jos, where the two sides faced off. I was shot at many times by the muslims in the military and drove through roadblocks where nonmuslims were taken out of their vehicles and killed on the road in Tilden Fulani on the way to Bauchi. The windows in my house broke after a suicide bomb blast detonated at a church less than a mile away. Little coke can bombs were set off at bars and TV centers nearby. I relocated people during the conflicts. I petitioned the UN, USAID, and multiple governmental agencies for help and resources after the crisis and never once received any aid. The military leadership would take weapons off base in the middle of the night and send them to their people to be used in the attacks. I went to villages the morning after the attacks and surveyed the scene, and transported victims or helped bury the dead. With 450 people groups within Nigeria, the ethno-religious divide was/is too vast.
