(DC Pundit) – In a recent interview on CNN’s ‘Smerconish,’ former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed concern over the lack of regulation on social media platforms, stating that “we lose total control” if stronger measures aren’t implemented to moderate online content.
Clinton emphasized the need for national action, particularly from Congress, which she described as “dysfunctional” in addressing the threats posed by unregulated social media. “This should be at the top of every legislative, political agenda,” she said, advocating for significant changes to how platforms are held accountable.
In particular, Clinton called for the repeal of Section 230, a legal provision that grants online platforms immunity from liability for user-generated content. “They were thought to be just pass-throughs… But we now know that that was an overly simple view,” she explained. Clinton argued that platforms like Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and TikTok must actively monitor and moderate harmful content. Without such oversight, she warned, “it’s not just the social and psychological effects, it’s real harm,” referencing issues like child pornography and violent threats.
Clinton also stressed the importance of removing the immunity these companies currently enjoy, urging for clear “guardrails” and regulations to ensure user safety. “We’ve conducted a big experiment on ourselves and particularly our kids,” she said, advocating for stricter measures in schools, including policies requiring students to turn in their phones upon arrival.
THEY ADMITTED IT

According to Clinton, the evidence is clear: more must be done to protect society, especially children, from the dangers of unregulated social media content.
