(DC Pundit) – The latest celebrity push to defund Immigration and Customs Enforcement shows just how far removed Hollywood’s elite have become from everyday Americans. In recent days, a collection of A-list entertainers took to social media to urge fans to pressure lawmakers into cutting funding for ICE, all while presenting themselves as moral authorities on law enforcement and immigration.
Pop star Ariana Grande, who enjoys an audience of 372 million followers on Instagram, shared a guide instructing people on how to contact their representatives, complete with a script telling supporters exactly what to say. The message was clear: call Congress and demand action, preferably on command. Independent thought not required.

Singer Katy Perry echoed the sentiment for her 205 million followers, encouraging them to “turn anger into action.” What that action looks like, apparently, is dismantling a federal agency tasked with enforcing immigration law—something Congress created, funds, and oversees, regardless of how many platinum records one has on the wall.

Actress Kerry Washington also joined the chorus, directing her 7.6 million followers to push back against immigration enforcement carried out under President Donald Trump. In a video message, Washington declared, “We pay their salaries with our tax dollars, so let’s f**king go.” She added, “You are not powerless over what’s happening in Minnesota. There’s something that I can do about it. There’s something that you can do about it. Right now.”
This celebrity campaign intensified following the shooting death of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, which sparked renewed outrage from activists and entertainers alike. Several high-profile figures publicly blamed ICE, despite the complexity of law enforcement operations and ongoing investigations that rarely fit neatly into an Instagram caption.
The Dave Matthews Band released a statement saying, “We are horrified by the images coming out of Minneapolis. It’s hard to watch and hard to believe this is America.” The band went further, asserting, “If ICE wasn’t in Minneapolis, Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti would still be alive today.”

Actor John Stamos weighed in as well, stating that “what I’m seeing from ICE feels cruel. I don’t need it explained away or reframed. I trust my own eyes!”
Wealthy celebrities, insulated from the real-world consequences of illegal immigration, speak with absolute certainty while bearing none of the costs. They don’t live in border towns overwhelmed by cartel activity, nor do they compete for jobs with illegal labor or deal with strained local services. From their gated communities and private jets, the answer always seems to be less enforcement and more slogans.
The irony is hard to miss. These same stars who lecture Americans about “democracy” appear perfectly comfortable directing their followers on what to think, say, and demand—preferably using profanity for emphasis. Meanwhile, millions of law-abiding citizens who expect immigration laws to be enforced are dismissed as backward or heartless.
Hollywood may have the megaphones, but regular Americans are left with the consequences. And no amount of celebrity outrage changes the basic reality: a nation without borders is not a nation at all.
