(DC Pundit) – A 64-year-old man was beaten to death on a New York City subway Tuesday. This is yet another horrific reminder of what happens when criminals are coddled instead of jailed. The suspect? A 25-year-old violent repeat offender with 33 prior arrests who was somehow still roaming the streets like it’s no big deal.
Police say the killer, identified as David Mazariegos, launched into a ten-minute rampage against a complete stranger in downtown Brooklyn, reportedly because he didn’t like the way the man looked at him. Imagine that — a glance turned fatal in a city that can’t seem to tell the difference between compassion and chaos.
According to The New York Post, Mazariegos became enraged after the 64-year-old victim did something polite — holding the subway door open for him. That simple act of courtesy set off the unhinged criminal, who proceeded to punch the man repeatedly, then stomped on his head more than a dozen times. Witnesses described the attack as absolutely brutal.

And because no New York City horror story would be complete without a robbery, Mazariegos snatched the victim’s wallet before fleeing the scene. Police later found him wandering through Times Square, sword in tow — a samurai sword, no less — strapped to his backpack like some kind of deranged movie villain.
The victim was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Brooklyn Methodist, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Let’s pause here for a second — 33 prior arrests. Thirty-three. Yet he’s free to beat and kill innocent people on public transit. This is what New York’s so-called “criminal justice reform” looks like: violent offenders get endless second chances, while decent citizens pay the ultimate price.
New Yorkers are living in fear on their own subway system, and who could blame them? It’s no longer just the late-night trains that feel unsafe — it’s every ride, every stop, every stranger’s glance.
Until leaders get serious about locking up repeat offenders and protecting law-abiding citizens, the violence will continue. Sadly, for one innocent man who was simply trying to help, that lesson came far too late.
