(DC Pundit) – An Indiana man learned the hard way that freedom of speech doesn’t extend to making credible threats against the world’s richest man. David A. Cherry, 28, of Palmyra, Indiana, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with felony intimidation after allegedly posting menacing messages directed at Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of X, on the social media platform.
I can almost guarantee that Cherry is an angry liberal who can’t stand the fact that Musk took over Twitter and turned it into a free speech haven, instead of the left-wing echo chamber it used to be. They sure do get angry when they don’t get their way, don’t they?
According to reports, Indiana State Police officials were alerted early Tuesday morning by Texas law enforcement, who flagged an X user residing in southern Indiana for allegedly making threats against Musk earlier this month. While Texas authorities remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the threats, ISP detectives wasted no time launching an investigation and located Cherry in Clarksville.
After taking Cherry into custody, police executed a search warrant at his Palmyra home, where they reportedly discovered an AR-15-style rifle, a handgun, ammunition, and a ballistic vest. The presence of these items, though not illegal in themselves, certainly added weight to the credibility of the alleged threats. Cherry was subsequently booked into the Harrison County Jail on one count of Intimidation – a Level 5 Felony – and is currently being held without bond.

ISP Sgt. Carey Huls addressed the arrest on Wednesday, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation: “Obviously it’s a situation where you have somebody makes public statements on a social media network for everybody to see – threats against another person – and that has to be taken very seriously.”
Huls went on to reference a tragic incident from December of last year, in which UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot and killed in Manhattan. “Had there been some type of a social media post prior to that that could have been looked into and prevented something like this?” Huls asked, highlighting the importance of taking potential threats seriously in today’s volatile climate. “So we can’t take those chances in this day and age to put something that’s very inflammatory, specific towards a person and just expect that to go without us looking into it. It’s a serious offense. Again, life-threatening statements.” A fair point. It’s always better to be proactive when dealing with potentially dangerous situations.
You never know when some unhinged lunatic is going to actually follow through on their threats. Look at what happened to Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, for example. A crazed leftist showed up at his house with a gun, planning to assassinate him. Fortunately, he was caught before he could carry out his evil plan. This just goes to show you how unhinged the left has become.
Huls continued, explaining that detectives “applied for a search warrant, did go to the individual’s house, where they found some other information that would relate to those statements to basically corroborate and say, yes, this is a possibility. This could have been his thoughts.”
While expressing opinions and engaging in political discourse are fundamental rights, threatening violence against individuals is never acceptable.
