(DC Pundit) – Vice President Kamala Harris is set to unveil federal economic proposals on Friday, which will include Soviet-style, centrally controlled price regulations on food and groceries. These proposals will offer a glimpse into her 2024 policy platform.
As the Democratic presidential nominee, Harris is pledging to implement a national ban on price gouging and price-fixing within her first 100 days in office. This move is aimed at addressing widespread voter dissatisfaction with President Joe Biden’s economic policies.
According to a report from Time magazine, Harris plans to empower the Federal Trade Commission and other agencies to investigate and penalize large corporations that violate government regulations, reflecting a command economy approach similar to the Soviet Union’s. Her campaign has indicated that additional measures to combat price fixing and anti-competitive practices in the food and grocery sectors will also be outlined.
Harris is expected to reveal further details on her strategies for reducing prescription drug and housing costs during her upcoming economic address in Raleigh, North Carolina.
There is no confirmation yet on whether Harris will take questions from the media after her speech, mirroring President Biden’s frequent reluctance to engage directly on policy matters.
In her remarks, Harris is anticipated to specifically target the highly concentrated meat industry, criticizing its processing intermediaries as “particularly egregious” for their history of illegal price manipulation, as reported by Time.
