(DC Pundit) – President Donald Trump delivered a decisive blow to socialism over the weekend, announcing that U.S. forces had captured Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro in a precise military operation. The long-time strongman, whose regime turned one of the world’s most oil-rich nations into a basket case of poverty, corruption, and drug trafficking, was extracted from Caracas and flown out of the country along with his wife.
Maduro wasn’t a legitimate leader; he was a narco-tyrant who rigged elections, starved his people, and flooded our streets with drugs while cozying up to adversaries like Iran and Russia. President Trump, speaking from Mar-a-Lago on Saturday, made it clear that the days of chaos under Maduro are over. The United States will oversee Venezuela’s vast oil sector, bringing in top American companies to rebuild the neglected infrastructure and get the crude flowing again—for the benefit of the Venezuelan people and to recoup what was effectively stolen from U.S. interests years ago.
Trump emphasized that major U.S. oil firms are ready to invest billions to fix the “badly broken” system left by decades of socialist mismanagement. Venezuela sits on the largest proven oil reserves on the planet, over 300 billion barrels, but under Maduro and his predecessor Hugo Chávez, production plummeted from more than 3 million barrels a day to a fraction of that. Pipelines haven’t been updated in half a century, and the industry was gutted by nationalization that seized foreign assets, including American ones. Now, with Maduro out of the picture, those resources can finally be harnessed properly.
When asked about governance, Trump was straightforward: the U.S. will run things temporarily with a coordinated team until a safe transition is in place. Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has stepped in following Maduro’s removal, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio has already been in contact with her.
Vice President JD Vance took to X to back the operation wholeheartedly, noting that Trump had given Maduro multiple chances to step aside peacefully.
The president offered multiple off ramps, but was very clear throughout this process: the drug trafficking must stop, and the stolen oil must be returned to the United States. Maduro is the newest person to find out that President Trump means what he says.

Of course, as expected, Democrats immediately rolled out their tired Trump Derangement Syndrome playbook, whining about the operation without offering any real solutions to the drug crisis or humanitarian disaster Maduro created.

Donald Trump’s actions in Venezuela do not make America safer, stronger, or more affordable.
That Maduro is a brutal, illegitimate dictator does not change the fact that this action was both unlawful and unwise. We’ve seen this movie before. Wars for regime change or oil that…

President Trump’s unilateral military action to attack another country and seize Maduro — no matter how terrible a dictator he is — is unconstitutional and threatens to drag the U.S. into further conflicts in the region. What does it mean that the U.S. will ‘run’ Venezuela, and…

Meanwhile, Venezuelans from Miami to Caracas are hitting the streets in celebration, finally seeing the end of the man responsible for one of history’s worst economic collapses—hyperinflation, mass exodus, and widespread hunger in a country that should be thriving.

Who can blame them? After years of watching socialists destroy prosperity while lecturing the world, it’s refreshing to see bold American leadership step in and say enough is enough.

This operation was about protecting our borders, reclaiming stolen assets, and giving the Venezuelan people a shot at freedom and wealth again. President Trump promised to make America great, and extending that strength to rid our hemisphere of a dangerous regime is exactly what strong leadership looks like. The left may cry foul, but real Americans know this is a win for security and common sense.
