(DC Pundit) – In what looked like a scene straight out of a horror movie, a chainsaw-wielding maniac decided to crash a nursing home in Illinois last weekend.
It all went down at River Glen of St. Charles, a place where our seniors should be enjoying their golden years, not dodging power tools. According to the St. Charles Police Department, they got a call about a shirtless guy trying to play lumberjack on the property. But this wasn’t your average tree-trimming service, oh no.
Before the boys in blue could arrive, our wannabe Texas Chainsaw Massacre star decided to take his act indoors. He burst into the lobby, revved up his chainsaw and started threatening the residents.
Responding officers tried to talk him down, but this guy wasn’t exactly in a listening mood. They even attempted to zap him with a Taser. Finally, one officer had to pull the trigger on his service weapon.
Despite their best efforts to patch him up, our chainsaw enthusiast didn’t make it. But here’s the silver lining – the residents and officers only received minor scrapes and bruises.
Neighbor Tom Lapis told WLS-TV, “It scares us. But I’m sure it’s a one-time incident, and we hope and pray that that’s the situation, because we love the community.”
Paul Ekstrom, whose 100-year-old mother was having breakfast nearby when all hell broke loose, said, “Every time I recount this story, it just doesn’t seem real. If it wasn’t for the police, I mean, thank God for the police, they would’ve been sitting ducks.” Amen to that, Paul. Those officers were the real MVPs of the day.
The disturbed man turned out to be 41-year-old Daniel Escalera from Indiana. This fella had a rap sheet longer than a CVS receipt, with everything from DUIs to stabbing his wife and beating up a motorcyclist. And get this – he was supposed to be in jail for a probation violation. Seems like someone dropped the ball harder than a Super Bowl fumble.

So there you have it, folks. A reminder that sometimes truth is stranger than fiction, and that our men and women in blue are out there every day, ready to face down the craziest situations imaginable. Let’s just hope the next time someone shows up at a nursing home with power tools, it’s the maintenance guy.
