(DC Pundit) – We’ve got ourselves a good old-fashioned political dust-up brewing. The MAGA crowd is up in arms over a rumor that Mitch McConnell, the former Senate GOP leader, might be plotting to throw a wrench in Donald Trump’s Cabinet nomination plans.
It all started with a tweet from Jane Mayer, a New Yorker staff writer, who claimed McConnell told some Washington bigwigs that “there will be no recess appointments” for Trump’s cabinet picks. Now, that tweet has vanished faster than free ice cream at a summer fair, but not before it set off a firestorm among Trump’s loyal supporters.
Trump’s been talking up his plan to use recess appointments as a way to sidestep those pesky Senate confirmations. He’s even gone as far as demanding that the new GOP Senate leader back this strategy. But here’s the kicker – McConnell isn’t even the top dog anymore. That honor now belongs to South Dakota’s John Thune.
At 82 years old, McConnell seems pretty confident about his prediction. Who knows, maybe he’s feeling a bit more free to speak his mind these days.

I wonder how much money this old man has laundered and stolen from the American people over the years?
Guess we should check into that. pic.twitter.com/5h7u9pocQN

Now, this whole kerfuffle has Trump’s supporters seeing red. They’re suspecting foul play faster than you can say “election integrity.” Senator Mike Lee from Utah couldn’t resist pointing out that “McConnell is no longer the Senate GOP leader,” while Florida’s Rick Scott flat-out denied Mayer’s claim with a blunt “Yes, there will be.”

But it’s not just the politicians getting in on the action. Trump’s fan base is lighting up social media faster than a Fourth of July fireworks display. One supporter warned that McConnell is “in for a rude awakening if he thinks he’s going to usurp the will of 76 million people and dictate Trump’s second term.” Another accused “Snitch McConnell” of trying to block Trump’s cabinet.
Even Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA got in on the action, calling out the new leader: “Senator Thune, care to chime in? Is this your position?”

Trump himself took to X (formerly Twitter) to lay down the law: “Any Republican Senator seeking the coveted LEADERSHIP position in the United States Senate must agree to Recess Appointments (in the Senate!), without which we will not be able to get people confirmed in a timely manner.”

So, there you have it. Another day, another political drama in Washington. Will McConnell’s alleged plot succeed? Will Trump get his recess appointments? Stay tuned – it’s far from over!
