(DC Pundit) – Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is once again making headlines, and surprise, surprise, it’s not for talking about the city’s actual problems. Instead, she’s complaining loudly about ICE raids, claiming they’re “destabilizing” the local economy. What you won’t hear from Bass? Any mention of the painfully slow rebuilding efforts after the devastating fires that tore through thousands of homes just months ago. Apparently, that’s not a priority when there’s an immigration narrative to push.
ABC Los Angeles reported on Wednesday that Mayor Bass blasted the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement, insisting these raids have hammered the city’s economy. “Businesses have seen a drastic reduction in immigrant customers,” she said, painting a dire picture of struggling families. “When one breadwinner, one wage earner, is gone and disappears—to survive in our city, economically, you need two, three and four wage earners to keep housing, to keep food on the table, to keep clothes on your kids,” Bass explained. “When that is taken away from you that just doesn’t destabilize a family, that destabilizes a neighborhood. It destabilizes businesses. It destabilizes a community.”
LA Mayor Karen Bass says deporting criminal alien workers and giving those jobs to Americans is “destabilizing” the city:
“We’ve seen the raids. That destabilizes the community. We aren’t going to allow this administration to destabilize our city.”

Look, nobody is denying that families depend on multiple incomes to make ends meet, but the mayor’s selective outrage conveniently ignores the legal aspect here. ICE isn’t out there just for sport—they are enforcing immigration laws. If you’re in the country illegally, there are consequences. And if your entire household depends on breaking those laws, well, that’s a problem for you, not the city.

Funny how Bass never shows this same urgency when it comes to the actual rebuilding of Los Angeles. Families lost their homes in the fires, and yet the mayor’s focus seems to be laser-targeted on bashing the Trump administration and ICE. Maybe if Bass spent as much time working on rebuilding neighborhoods as she does complaining about federal enforcement, the city would be in better shape.
Los Angeles, under progressive leadership, has been struggling with homelessness, crime, and economic stagnation for years. Blaming ICE raids for hurting the economy is an easy scapegoat for a mayor who seems out of touch with the city’s bigger problems.
Bass’s lament about “destabilizing neighborhoods” and “businesses” sounds more like a campaign talking point than a policy solution. The reality is that businesses thrive when laws are enforced and communities are safe. Illegal immigration creates a strain on public resources, and ignoring that only worsens the problem.
Meanwhile, conservative voices continue to call for stronger border security and law enforcement, arguing that a stable economy depends on respect for the rule of law. That message resonates with many Americans who want legal immigration, and not lawlessness.
As the city drifts further into chaos with little real progress on rebuilding or economic revival, Mayor Bass’s constant finger-pointing at ICE feels less like leadership and more like political posturing. Until she starts addressing the real issues head-on, the people of Los Angeles will keep paying the price.
