(DC Pundit) – Whoopi Goldberg, the ever-opinionated co-host of ABC’s “The View,” unleashed a verbal tirade against Republicans on Thursday. Her accusation? That the GOP is acting like they don’t “give a damn about the country.” Oh, the irony of accusing others of not caring while hosting a show that often resembles a political food fight more than a thoughtful discussion.
Sunny Hostin, Goldberg’s partner in prime-time pontification, kicked off the conversation by expressing concern over the lack of oversight regarding Elon Musk’s actions. “We should have an oversight to look at these things,” Hostin declared.
She continued her lament, saying, “My problem is not the review but who is in office, this unelected billionaire, and what the heck is he doing?” One might wonder if Hostin has the same concerns about other unelected billionaires, such as George Soros, who wield significant influence in various sectors, or if her worry is exclusively reserved for those who don’t share her political views.
Goldberg, never one to be outdone in the realm of hyperbole, chimed in with her own brand of historical revisionism. “I’ve watched 60 years of history get wiped out,” she proclaimed.
Goldberg, in a stunning lack of self-awareness, remarked, “I’ve never seen the Republicans ever act in this fashion, ever, and to not give a damn about the country, to allow it to get torn apart this way is freaking me the hell out.” Has Goldberg been living in an alternate reality where political polarization and partisan bickering are novel concepts introduced solely by Republicans?
The irony of Goldberg’s outrage over “unelected” individuals reviewing government documents is palpable. As any Civics 101 student could tell you, the vast majority of government positions are filled by unelected individuals. But apparently, this fact only becomes problematic when it doesn’t align with Goldberg’s political narrative.
Her sudden concern over transparency and oversight seems to have conveniently materialized just as certain political figures hold power.
The Democratic Party’s reaction to recent exposures of potential corruption bears a striking resemblance to the classic deflection tactic of getting angry at the messenger. It’s as if they believe that by shouting loudly enough about the unfairness of it all, they can drown out the sound of their own misdeeds being brought to light.
The existence of corruption within political circles is hardly breaking news. What’s new is the availability of concrete evidence, the proverbial paper trail that turns suspicions into certainties.
Goldberg’s impassioned plea for political integrity would carry more weight if it weren’t so blatantly one-sided. Perhaps a more balanced approach to criticism, one that acknowledges faults on both sides of the political aisle, would do more to heal the divisions she claims to care so much about.
