(DC Pundit) – While speaking to the press recently, Patrick Mahomes was asked about former President Donald Trump, who had mentioned Mahomes earlier that day during a Fox News interview.
In late August, Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes, publicly expressed her support for Trump’s campaign on Instagram, which stirred the usual reactions—praise from conservative circles and criticism from liberal ones.
Given the couple’s friendship with Taylor Swift and Swift’s boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Mahomes was also questioned about Swift’s political involvement. Swift has been vocal about her support for Vice President Kamala Harris, especially following her endorsement after the recent presidential debate.
Mahomes now finds himself navigating politically charged waters, with his wife backing Trump and Swift advocating for Harris. However, his response to the situation was praised for being principled and nonpartisan, a stance that aligns with his public role as a sports figure.

Fans, Mahomes pointed out, do not tune in to hear athletes’ political endorsements or opinions on policies. His answer preserves the entertainment and escape that sports provide, while also offering a respectful perspective on public figures’ political engagement. He suggested that athletes and celebrities should encourage fans to register to vote, conduct research, and make informed decisions.
This approach could serve as a model for other public figures facing similar pressures.
