(DC Pundit) – It’s been a rough Monday for Rep. Ilhan Omar, and it started before most Americans had finished their first cup of coffee.

Federal agents searched the Washington, D.C.-area home of the Minnesota Democrat around 6 a.m. as part of a criminal fraud investigation into her immigration paperwork, according to Fox News Digital’s exclusive. The documents at issue were filled out by her late father. Agents wearing HSI jackets were seen outside the residence.

The Department of Justice confirmed the operation. A spokesperson stated: “Today in the Washington, D.C., area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation.”

The irony is hard to miss. Omar has built a career as one of the loudest critics of federal immigration enforcement, and now federal immigration investigators have come knocking on her door. Nobody said the universe lacked a sense of humor.

For those who need the background, Omar arrived in the United States in March 1995 at age 12. She became a naturalized citizen in 2000 at age 17. She was first elected to Congress in 2018.

This didn’t come out of nowhere. White House border czar Tom Homan publicly confirmed in mid-September that Omar was the subject of an ongoing “criminal” investigation. Days earlier, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin told conservative host Benny Johnson that Omar married her brother and could be deported. Homan has emphasized that no one is above the law and that denaturalization remains possible in proven cases of immigration fraud.

Omar has long denied the allegation that she married her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, in 2009 to secure his immigration status. She has called the claims “disgusting” and has insisted she is not under investigation. That second part just got a lot harder to sell.

Voters in Minnesota’s 5th District have plenty to think about.

(DC Pundit) – Beer, liquor, cigarettes and porn. No, that’s not the shopping list for a bachelor party in Vegas. It’s what some Americans have been buying with cash welfare, courtesy of a loophole in federal law that you could drive a Budweiser truck through.

Fortunately, states are finally waking up, and the Trump administration is helping. The latest to act is Nebraska. On Oct. 9, Republican Gov. Jim Pillen ordered the state to stop letting cash welfare recipients spend that money on tobacco, porn, tattoos, psychic and fortune-telling services, luxury watches and more. Anyone getting money through Nebraska’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program can no longer use it on things taxpayers shouldn’t be bankrolling in the first place.

Most Americans would be forgiven for assuming this was already the rule. Cash welfare was created to help low-income families “achieve economic security and stability.” Last I checked, a cigarette habit and a fresh tattoo aren’t on the path to economic security. So how did we get here?

Federal rules do bar recipients from spending TANF dollars at liquor stores, casinos and strip clubs. But alcohol is sold at plenty of other places, like your neighborhood grocery store, and gambling and pornography are available well beyond the casino floor. Washington built the fence around the front yard and left the back gate wide open.

That gate has been swinging for roughly 30 years. TANF was born in the 1996 welfare reform law signed by President Bill Clinton, and apparently nobody in Congress noticed that “adult entertainment” is not confined to seedy clubs. The list of questionable purchases doesn’t stop there. Concert tickets, streaming subscriptions and spa treatments have been fair game too. Nothing says “needy” like a facial.

Closing the loophole for the whole country would take an act of Congress, and anyone who has watched Capitol Hill lately knows how that usually goes. So the Trump administration took a smarter route. It issued guidance explaining how states can ask for stronger restrictions on a state-by-state basis, which explains the sudden progress.

Florida moved first. In August, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis blocked cash welfare from being spent on tobacco, drugs, porn, tattoos, video games, fortune-telling services and a long list of other non-essentials. The Trump administration quickly approved the plan, which DeSantis said will protect “Floridians who genuinely need assistance” while guarding taxpayers against fraud and abuse.

So what are the other governors waiting for? Florida and Nebraska have handed them the blueprint. They can amend their state plans, or work with legislators on more permanent reforms and hold retailers accountable for dodging the rules.

Every state should close this loophole immediately. Welfare is meant to be a safety net and taxpayers shouldn’t be footing the bill for someone’s pre-mixed cocktails and porn.

(DC Pundit) – Barack Obama’s presidential center in Chicago has been open for a little more than three months, and some of the people working there are already ready to walk out the door. Staff say pay, hours, and benefits have been cut, and that nobody upstairs is listening. Three months. That’s not even enough time for the gift shop to run out of mugs.

In a letter to colleagues this week, employees at the Chicago library said they are organizing a union because of the institute’s “increasing workloads” and benefit rollbacks. According to the letter, first shared by the Chicago Sun-Times, workers have grown frustrated with leadership at Obama’s foundation after their concerns were met with “vague responses.”

The staffers say the problems have fueled a “high turnover rate,” with many more “continuing to leave (and) taking with them their institutional knowledge and expertise,” the letter claimed. Workers say they were recently told their healthcare costs would go up, promotions were suspended, and paid time off was reduced. They also learned there would be no pay increases this winter. Nothing says “hope and change” quite like a freeze on raises.

The complaints raise some uncomfortable questions about the books at a $900 million presidential center. Critics have long maligned the building for resembling the Star Wars Death Star or a huge trash bin. If the staff’s account is accurate, the center may already be facing financial trouble, and it didn’t take a Sith Lord to get there.

The workers did bring one ace-in-the-hole to their pitch: Obama’s own words about unions. “If I were looking for a good job that lets me build some security for my family, I’d join a union. If I saw a problem in my workplace, I’d organize my coworkers to do something about it,” the letter quoted Obama, who made the remarks in 2016. It’s hard to argue with that advice, especially when it’s coming from the guy signing the paychecks.

Here’s the real test. The man who spent years cheering on organized labor is now the boss, and his employees are taking him at his word. Will he practice what he preached when the shoe is on the other foot? And will CNN or any of the other liberal networks give these workers a second of airtime? If this were a Trump property, it would be wall-to-wall coverage.

(DC Pundit) – New York City’s Mamdani administration is about to spend $8.9 million on “gender-affirming” care for kids, and anyone wondering whether Democrats learned a thing from 2024 now has their answer.

The city Department of Health has lined up two vendors, Callen-Lorde and Nonprofit Organization for Philanthropic Initiatives, under two contracts totaling $8.9 million. They would provide sex-transition treatment to transgender patients under the age of 18, and the contracts run from 2027-29.

In a public notice, the department spelled out what taxpayers would be buying.

“This includes the prescription and administration of puberty-blockers and hormone replacement therapy to all minor patients for whom such services are medically necessary based on the prevailing standards of care,” the DOH said.

The notice added that “Services will be performed by qualified medical providers with current New York State licensure, and will be provided consistent with state laws governing parental consent.”

The federal Department of Justice has challenged this kind of care for minors as medically dangerous and illegal. Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s team is plowing ahead anyway, which looks less like governing and more like a dare.

It’s also a head-scratcher politically. Gender policy for minors was one of the issues that hurt Democrats badly in 2024, and Republicans made the most of it. A party with any sense of self-preservation would quietly change the subject. Instead, the city is signing eight-figure contracts. Voters have made their feelings known, and the left has simply decided it doesn’t care. Apparently the activist base holds the steering wheel, and the party isn’t allowed to move on, no matter what the public thinks.

Critics didn’t hold back. They accuse Mamdani’s team of trying to get around the federal ban on gender care services for minors. State Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar summed up the objection in one line. “They’re making an ideological decision instead of a medical decision,” he said.

Call it what you like, but handing children puberty blockers and hormones on the taxpayer’s dime strikes plenty of Americans as outrageous. Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist who took office as mayor in January, isn’t interested in splitting the difference. New Yorkers will get to see how that works out, one contract at a time.

(DC Pundit) – The FBI under President Joe Biden reportedly kept tabs on First Lady Melania Trump and Barron Trump’s travel, and the bureau was also watching Susie Wiles’ phone, newly declassified records show.

The White House released the documents Monday. They detail “Plasmic Echo,” the classified documents probe later led by special counsel Jack Smith into whether President Donald Trump improperly retained records after leaving office. According to the records, agents tracked the travel of the First Lady and First Son while planning the Mar-a-Lago search, which took place in August 2022. Investigators then monitored calls involving Wiles, who would go on to become Trump’s Chief of Staff, as the probe reached deeper into his inner circle.

The documents say the surveillance collected call details rather than the contents of conversations. That’s a distinction worth noting, though it may be cold comfort to anyone who found out the government was logging who they phoned. Earlier Monday, it was reported that Smith’s team secretly monitored Wiles’ phone activity while she was running Trump’s 2024 campaign. In other words, the people running one side of a presidential race had their contacts catalogued by a prosecutor’s office run by the other side’s administration. Nothing to see here.

The probe swept up Wiles’ contacts with at least 21 Trump-affiliated defense lawyers, campaign staff, and political advisers, along with at least five journalists. Most of the names are redacted. Two are not: current FBI Director Kash Patel and Just the News founder John Solomon.

The White House wasted no time responding. Spokesperson Lauren Bis told Fox News Digital:

“Jack Smith’s surveillance operation was a disgraceful abuse of government power. Spying on political opponents is weaponization of law enforcement, plain and simple,” Bis said. “Those responsible must be held accountable.”

Smith’s classified documents case has since collapsed. A federal judge dismissed it in July 2024, and the prosecution ended after Trump won the election. Now the details of how the investigation was run are coming out, and for conservatives who have spent years warning about a politicized Justice Department, the records read like an I-told-you-so with a government seal on it.

(DC Pundit) – President Donald Trump gave three justices a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court, and now he’s looking for the return desk.

In a wide-ranging interview with TIME conducted at the White House, Trump was asked directly whether he regrets nominating Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett. He had recently called the trio “a shell of their original selves” in a Truth Social post.

His answer left little room for interpretation.

“Yeah. Yeah. What can I do? I put them in,” Trump said, according to TIME. “They voted against me too often. I was very—I gave them the position of a lifetime, and they vote against me often. They vote for me too.”

The president then went through the rulings that set him off. In June, the court struck down his birthright citizenship executive order in a 5-4 decision. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion, and Barrett joined Roberts, Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson. Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito issued blistering dissents. Trump said the ruling turned citizenship into “a corrupt business.”

In February, the court ruled 6-3 that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act did not authorize Trump’s sweeping emergency tariffs. Gorsuch and Barrett joined the majority, while Kavanaugh dissented. Trump says that decision will cost America hundreds of billions.

“It’s unfortunate what they did—not to me, to our country,” Trump said. “All they had to do was a little clause saying any money paid does not have to be paid back… would have saved $400 billion.”

Last month, the court blocked a Postal Service rule aimed at stopping ballots from going to ineligible voters. Only Alito and Thomas dissented. Trump wrote that “these are not the people I interviewed to serve on the United States Supreme Court, they are merely a shell of their original selves,” and accused certain justices of being “petrified of these crazed and depraved Democrats.”

Trump also pointed to the court’s three Democrat-appointed justices as a model of consistency. “The Democrats stick like glue — those three, they virtually never vary,” he said, referring to Sotomayor, Kagan and Jackson. Say this for the left: they know how to show up for the team.

Asked whether he wants loyalty from his justices, Trump first said, “I do like loyalty, yeah.” Pressed, he added: “No, I don’t want loyalty. I want good decisions. The tariff decision was disastrous for the country. I want good decisions for the country.”

For conservatives who were told these three would anchor a 6-3 majority, it’s a sobering moment. Alito and Thomas, the two he still calls legends, are the ones who ended up writing dissents in the birthright citizenship and mail-ballot cases.
