(DC Pundit) – Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf has established himself as one of the most dogged law enforcement officials in Michigan when it comes to investigating election integrity. On Sunday evening, after speaking with a whistleblower from inside the Michigan Secretary of State’s office, he dropped a bombshell that every Republican senator sitting on the fence about the SAVE Act needs to hear immediately.

According to Sheriff Leaf, a confidential informant who works for the Michigan Secretary of State’s office came forward with a disturbing account of how non-citizens are ending up on Michigan’s voter rolls, and why it is nearly impossible to catch or remove them once they get there.

Here is what the whistleblower allegedly revealed: non-citizens are being automatically registered to vote when they change their address through the state’s customer and automotive records system. Even more remarkably, that same system is apparently programmed to congratulate those non-citizens and inform them that they have been registered to vote. When the informant brought proof of this to a supervisor, the supervisor claimed county clerks would catch and remove ineligible registrants. Sheriff Leaf says that explanation does not hold up, as clerks only receive access to the Qualified Voter File after the Secretary of State has already registered the person, and the QVF itself does not flag citizenship status. By the time anyone could theoretically catch the error, the non-citizen is already on the rolls.

And once they are on the rolls, the path to casting a ballot is wide open. The individual can request a mail-in ballot or vote in person with an ID card. Polling places do not verify citizenship. The system, as described, has no meaningful checkpoint to prevent a non-citizen from voting in a federal election.

Sheriff Leaf says his office has referred the matter to the U.S. Department of Justice for investigation of possible conspiracy to violate 18 U.S.C. § 611, the federal statute governing unlawful voting by non-citizens, specifically for placing non-citizens on the voter rolls and into the jury pool. He is also calling on the Michigan Legislature to act immediately to stop the practice, and is encouraging anyone with additional evidence to contact his office or their local sheriff. His closing message: “You know this is wrong, it’s time to act.”

All of this context makes the behavior of Michigan’s Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson considerably easier to understand. Benson has been refusing to turn over Michigan’s voter rolls to the DOJ for review and removal of ineligible voters. If the whistleblower’s account is accurate, Benson’s resistance to transparency is not a principled stand, it is a cover-up.

This is precisely why the SAVE Act exists and precisely why Democrats are fighting it with everything they have. If non-citizens cannot be registered to vote, they cannot vote. And if they cannot vote, Democrats lose a reliable source of support they have apparently been quietly cultivating for years.

(DC Pundit) – A new CBS News poll has confirmed what many conservatives have suspected for years: the Democratic Party has moved so far left that a majority of its own members now look favorably upon an economic system that has produced poverty, authoritarianism, and mass suffering everywhere it has ever been implemented.

According to the poll, 58% of Democrats now approve of socialism. The highest levels of support come from Democrats with college degrees, which tells you everything you need to know about what American universities have been doing with four years and tens of thousands of dollars in tuition money.

The poll did find that capitalism remains more popular with Americans overall, which is at least somewhat reassuring. But the numbers within the Democratic Party itself are alarming. Unlike the general public, Democrats view socialism more favorably than capitalism. College-educated Democrats are even more likely than their non-degree counterparts to hold a positive view of socialism, and they are also more likely to perceive a growing gap between the wealthy and the middle class, while being less likely to describe the Democratic Party itself as “effective.” That last part is at least self-aware.

Breaking it down further: younger Democrats more than older ones, and white Democrats more than other racial groups, tend to hold the most favorable views of socialism. Democrats also broadly believe socialism would improve their personal finances and that capitalism, on balance, makes them worse off financially.

That last finding is particularly telling. The United States of America, built on free-market capitalism, has produced the highest standard of living, the most technological innovation, and the greatest individual wealth creation in the history of human civilization. The countries that have embraced socialism have produced Venezuela, Cuba, and North Korea.

But sure, capitalism is the problem.

These CBS numbers are deeply alarming.

Democrats overwhelmingly support socialism and overwhelmingly oppose capitalism.

The uncomfortable truth is that this is not an accident. Decades of left-wing dominance in American higher education have produced generations of graduates who have been taught to view capitalism with suspicion and socialism with romantic idealism, entirely divorced from its historical record. The Soviet Union. Mao’s China. Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge. Every single implementation of socialist ideology at scale has ended in economic collapse, political repression, or both.

None of that history is being taught with any seriousness in the institutions producing these poll numbers. And the Democratic Party, now home to openly socialist politicians at the city, state, and federal level, has stopped even pretending to push back against it.

(DC Pundit) – The James Comey “86 47” beach photo story just got significantly more damning, and investigative reporter Paul Sperry has the details.

According to Sperry, evidence has emerged showing that Comey’s wife Patricia sent him a Google screenshot of a non-violent definition of the term “86” just two minutes before Comey posted his now-infamous Instagram photo of rocks arranged to spell out “86 47” on the beach. The timing is not subtle. If Comey’s photo was truly an innocent observation about a “cool shell formation on my beach walk” — as he described it — why would his wife be sending him definitions of the term moments before he posted it?

For those unfamiliar with the slang: “86” is a widely recognized street term meaning to eliminate or kill someone. Combined with “47” — the numerical designation of the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, the message reads as a threat against the sitting president’s life. Comey and his wife, it appears, thought they were being clever. They were not clever enough.

James Comey was indicted by a grand jury in the Eastern District of North Carolina on two felony counts in May. Count One charges him with knowingly and willfully making a threat to take the life of, and to inflict bodily harm upon, the President of the United States. Count Two charges him with knowingly and willfully transmitting in interstate and foreign commerce a communication containing a threat to kill the President, Donald J. Trump.

North Carolina-based U.S. District Judge Louise Flanagan, a George W. Bush appointee, has agreed to postpone Comey’s trial date to October.

This is not just any former government official facing criminal charges. James Comey served as Director of the FBI under both Presidents Obama and Trump before being fired by Trump in 2017. He was one of the central figures in the Russia investigation and has long been accused by conservatives of leading what amounted to an institutional effort to undermine Trump’s first term, alongside Barack Obama and former CIA Director John Brennan.

The evidence Sperry describes, a wife texting her husband a definition of the slang term he was about to use in a public post threatening the president, two minutes before posting, goes directly to the question of intent. Comey’s defense has presumably centered on the idea that the photo was innocent. The two-minute timestamp makes that argument considerably harder to sustain.

October cannot come soon enough.

(DC Pundit) – Something remarkable is happening in Dearborn, Michigan, and it should concern every American who believes in the constitutional right to free speech and peaceful assembly.

Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin released a video message urging city residents to stay away from the August 18th city council meeting because “anti-Islam protesters,” including activists planning a “Christian Crusader March” to “Stop Islamification,” are expected to show up and exercise their First Amendment rights.

“Please stay home,” Shahin said.

Let that sink in. A sitting police chief is asking residents to avoid a public government meeting, not because of a credible threat, but because American citizens intend to show up and protest. Shahin claims the expected demonstrators are coming to provoke residents, manufacture a confrontation, and generate publicity. That may or may not be true of their intentions. But, provocative speech is still protected speech in the United States of America.

Dearborn has become one of the most discussed cities in the ongoing debate about America’s cultural and demographic transformation. The city is now majority Arab and heavily Muslim. Islamic calls to prayer broadcast outdoors through residential neighborhoods. Mayor Abdullah Hammoud previously told a Christian resident he was “not welcome” in the city, a statement that would have generated wall-to-wall national media coverage if the religious identities involved were reversed.

The situation in Dearborn has grown increasingly tense in recent months. Pro-Hezbollah and Iranian-linked imagery has appeared at local processions. Activist Jake Lang was attacked during the city’s massive Arbaeen procession just weeks ago, an event that featured flags of U.S.-designated terrorist groups.

Dearborn police say they will deploy an “enhanced presence” and have prepared what the department describes as a comprehensive security plan for the meeting. That is entirely appropriate, maintaining order and protecting everyone in attendance, including the protesters, is exactly what law enforcement is supposed to do.

What is not appropriate is a police chief telling American citizens to stay away from their own city council meeting because he is uncomfortable with who else might show up. The solution to speech you disagree with is not silence, it is more speech, better arguments, and law enforcement that protects everyone’s right to participate equally in the democratic process.

If Dearborn’s leadership cannot guarantee the safety of American citizens exercising constitutionally protected rights in a public forum, that is a failure of governance that demands accountability, not a video telling people to stay home.

(DC Pundit) – Nancy Pelosi would like you to believe she was completely in the dark about Joe Biden’s cognitive decline right up until the moment he imploded on national television during a June 2024 debate against Donald Trump. The woman who served as Speaker of the House, one of the most powerful positions in Washington, and who built her entire career on political intelligence and insider knowledge, expects the American public to accept that she simply had no idea.

Sure, Nancy.

Speaking Tuesday at Politico’s The California Agenda: Sacramento Summit, Pelosi offered her explanation for why she was allegedly caught off guard. “You see, when I was Speaker, I saw the president all the time, but when I wasn’t then I saw him maybe 3 times that whole year and so I didn’t know, and I think he had his sort of ups and downs,” she said.

Three times in a year. And apparently none of those three encounters raised any red flags for one of the sharpest political operators in Democratic Party history. Remarkable.

Pelosi then made clear she believes someone absolutely did know, and took a barely veiled shot at Jill Biden in the process. “I do think those who did know should have acted upon that information…whoever knew,” she said pointedly. She followed that up with: “There was staff saying the family knew. The family said the staff.” Jill’s name was never mentioned. It didn’t need to be.

As for when Pelosi claims the truth finally became clear: “When you think of the debate and how sad that was, that’s really when we learned.”

The debate. June 2024. That’s the story she’s going with.

Meanwhile, Jill Biden’s own recent interviews are doing her no favors in the credibility department. Earlier this year, the former First Lady laughed while discussing how she covered for her husband’s cognitive decline during an appearance on the TODAY show. She also insisted, against all observable evidence, that Biden could have beaten Trump if he had stayed in the race. “I believe he would have beat Donald Trump in that election,” she said.

But then came the question that cut through everything. When asked by MS NOW host Jonathan Lemire whether Biden would have been able to serve as president had he won, Jill Biden’s answer was stunning in its candor: “I don’t know the answer to that.”

She doesn’t know if the man she was pushing to remain on the ballot could have actually done the job.

In a separate CBS Mornings interview, Jill Biden brushed the whole issue aside with casual indifference. “Oh, he was definitely aging; I mean, we were all aging,” she told host Rita Braver. “So, yes, he was slowing down.”

Slowing down. That’s one way to describe a president whose own wife isn’t sure he could have functioned in office. The American people deserve far better than what they were given, and far more honesty than they’re getting now.
