(DC Pundit) – The Trump administration is once again doing what the left refuses to: putting Americans first.
President Trump’s Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Minnesota and its far-left governor for pushing policies that favor illegal aliens over American citizens, particularly when it comes to college tuition.
According to a press release from the DOJ, the administration is suing to overturn Minnesota laws that grant free or heavily discounted in-state tuition to illegal aliens, a clear violation of federal law. Specifically, 8 U.S.C. § 1623(a) states that unless every U.S. citizen, no matter what state they’re from, is offered the same tuition rate, states can’t legally hand out those benefits to foreign nationals here illegally.
But in Walz’s Minnesota, if you are in the country illegally, you’re treated like royalty. If you’re a citizen from, say, Iowa or Wisconsin? Tough luck, you’re paying full price.
“Today, the United States is challenging laws in Minnesota that provide reduced in-state tuition — and in some cases, free tuition — for illegal aliens. These laws unconstitutionally discriminate against U.S. citizens, who are not afforded the same privileges, in direct conflict with federal law,” the DOJ press release states.
Translation: Tim Walz is using taxpayer dollars to reward lawbreaking, all while law-abiding American families foot the bill.
And he’s not alone. Minnesota’s Attorney General, Keith Ellison, best known for his soft-on-crime stance and long history of radical leftist activism, is also named in the suit. No surprise there. Ellison has never met a progressive policy he didn’t want to ram through, no matter how much it hurts working-class Americans.
Let’s be honest here. This is what the Democrat Party has become: a political machine that’s more interested in catering to illegals than protecting the rights and wallets of American citizens. Giving away taxpayer-funded tuition discounts to those who broke federal immigration law to get here is the latest slap in the face to millions of Americans struggling to afford college for their own kids.
As Trump continues his second term in the White House, efforts like these make it clear: this administration is serious about enforcing the law and standing up for Americans who’ve been sidelined by progressive politics for far too long.
For Tim Walz and the rest of the Democrat Party, the message is clear: ‘America First’ is more than just a slogan. It’s the law.
