(DC Pundit) – South Carolina Democrat Rep. Jim Clyburn has decided that President Donald Trump’s sweeping effort to restore order in Washington, D.C. isn’t about reducing crime, cleaning up the streets, or keeping citizens safe. No, in his mind, it’s “Jim Crow 2.0.” Because apparently, everything Democrats don’t like now gets the “Jim Crow” label slapped on it, no matter how absurd the comparison.
Yesterday, President Trump deployed the National Guard to the streets of the nation’s capital, a city plagued by skyrocketing crime, homeless encampments, and streets that resemble third-world conditions. For the overwhelming majority of residents, and anyone who values law and order, this move is long overdue. But to Clyburn, it’s all part of some sinister throwback to segregation-era oppression.

In an interview with MSNBC’s Alicia Menendez, Clyburn doubled down on his rhetoric: “You may recall, at the Democratic Convention, I spoke one evening and I said that Project 2025 is Jim Crow 2.0. Now, Jim Crow 1.0 came out of a [thesis] written by a Confederate General, Martin Gary. If you look at Project 2025, look at that 1876 document, you will see why I said what I did at the Democratic Convention, because whoever wrote Project 2025, they used those edicts out of 1876. I can tell you, right now, exactly what is going to happen in so many of these instances, because it’s all right there. If you look in the history books, you see it.”

In other words, Clyburn wants Americans to believe that cleaning up a crime-ridden city and protecting its citizens from violence is somehow equivalent to racist laws passed nearly 150 years ago. The mental gymnastics here could qualify for the Olympic team.
D.C.’s crime crisis didn’t appear overnight. Years of soft-on-crime policies, activist prosecutors, and city leadership more concerned with “reimagining” policing than actually enforcing the law have turned the capital into a cautionary tale. Under Democrat rule, public safety took a back seat, and residents have been paying the price in fear and tragedy.
President Trump’s approach is simple: restore safety, enforce the law, and make the city livable again. For normal Americans, that’s called “governing.” For Democrats like Clyburn, it’s an opportunity to launch into dramatic historical lectures that have little to do with reality and everything to do with partisan politics.
What Clyburn and his allies can’t admit is that Trump’s cleanup is exposing the failure of their policies. The boarded-up storefronts, open-air drug markets, and record homicide rates didn’t bother them nearly as much as the idea of someone actually fixing those problems.
If Democrats want to have a real conversation about history, they might start with the fact that their own party was the one pushing Jim Crow laws in the first place. But that’s an inconvenient truth they’d rather bury under a mountain of buzzwords and emotional scare tactics.
Trump’s move to secure D.C. isn’t “Jim Crow 2.0” — it’s common sense. And judging by the reaction from the left, it’s also exactly the kind of leadership the city desperately needed.
