(DC Pundit) – Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, a prominent member of the Squad, maintains her skepticism regarding the circumstances surrounding the explosion at a hospital in Gaza City on October 17. She questions whether it was indeed an errant rocket fired by Palestinian Islamic Jihad, as initially reported, or if the Israel Defense Force may be responsible.
In an official statement released on Monday, Tlaib pointed to concerns raised by various media outlets and third-party analysts about the evidence presented by Israel regarding the hospital incident. Initially, it was reported that approximately 500 people had lost their lives in the incident, but subsequent investigations have cast doubt on this number.
Tlaib’s statement reads, “Media outlets and third-party analysts have raised doubts about claims and evidence offered by both Israel and the Gaza Ministry of Health, and I agree with the United Nations that an independent investigation is necessary.” She goes on to emphasize the need for an impartial inquiry, stating, “I cannot uncritically accept Israel’s denials of responsibility as fact, especially in light of confirmation from the World Health Organization that Israel has bombed numerous medical facilities in Gaza and reports from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society of ongoing threats from the Israeli military to evacuate hospitals.”
The congresswoman also highlights the history of both the Israeli and United States governments using misinformation to cover up alleged war crimes. She cites past instances, including the Israeli military’s assassination of Shireen Abu Akleh and the false claims of weapons of mass destruction leading to the Iraq War. Tlaib firmly asserts that an independent international investigation is imperative to ascertain the truth in this case.
She further stresses that this ongoing debate should not overshadow the pressing need for a ceasefire to protect innocent civilian lives in the region.

On the other hand, the National Security Council (NSC) has reached a different conclusion, stating that Israel is not responsible for the hospital explosion. According to NSC spokesperson Adrienne Watson, “While we continue to collect information, our current assessment, based on analysis of overhead imagery, intercepts, and open-source information, is that Israel is not responsible for the explosion at the hospital in Gaza yesterday.”
