(DC Pundit) – James Randall “Randy” Witten was 71 years old and hanging decorations on his porch when he was killed. He was a veteran who served his country in the United States Air Force. He deserved to live out his retirement in peace. Instead, on May 30, a masked gunman pulled up in a Honda Civic and opened fire on him. Witnesses heard 10 to 15 shots.
The man accused of pulling the trigger is Axel Eduardo Chavez-Marroquin, 24, a citizen of El Salvador who had no business being in this country, and who was here entirely because of deliberate policy decisions made by people in positions of power who chose politics over public safety.
According to Border Hawk, “Chavez-Marroquin, a citizen of El Salvador, illegally entered California in 2021 and was released into the interior by the Biden administration.” He then spent the next several years racking up a criminal record. In 2024, he was charged with domestic violence in Santa Ana, California. In 2025, he was charged with domestic violence again, this time in nearby Laguna Niguel. Both times, California’s sanctuary policies shielded him from federal immigration authorities. Both times, ICE detainers were filed. Both times, California officials ignored them and let him walk.

DHS did not mince words about what happened next. “Chavez-Marroquin has a criminal history but was RELEASED TWICE by California sanctuary politicians after arrests for domestic violence,” the department said. “This illegal alien should’ve NEVER been allowed on our streets, and James Witten should still be alive today.”

After murdering Witten on his own front porch, Chavez-Marroquin and an accomplice fled to Las Vegas and remained at large for weeks. He was finally taken into custody on June 16.
Let that timeline sink in. An illegal alien enters the country in 2021 under the Biden administration’s catch-and-release policies. He commits domestic violence in 2024. He commits domestic violence again in 2025. California protects him from deportation twice. And then, in 2026, a 71-year-old Air Force veteran is shot dead on his porch while hanging decorations.
Every single person who crafted, defended, and enforced California’s sanctuary policies owns a piece of this. Every Biden administration official who signed off on catch-and-release owns a piece of this. Randy Witten is dead because a series of deliberate choices were made by people who decided that protecting criminal illegal aliens from deportation mattered more than protecting American citizens from violent crime.
James Randall Witten. Air Force veteran. Seventy-one years old. Killed on his own porch. Remember his name.
