(DC Pundit) – The party that never misses an opportunity to lecture the rest of America about the dangers of violent rhetoric just provided one of the most staggering examples of unhinged political behavior this year, and it happened on the floor of the Minnesota House of Representatives.
After the House deadlocked 67-67 along party lines on a procedural vote to bring Senate-passed gun control omnibus bill House File 5140 to the floor for debate, Democrat lawmakers completely lost the plot. Rather than accepting the outcome like adults, they staged a dramatic sit-in on the House floor, refusing to leave the chamber and demanding an immediate vote on what has been widely described as the “most extreme gun-grabbing bill in the country.”
And then it got worse. During the meltdown, multiple Democrat lawmakers reportedly directed a vile and deeply disturbing comment at Republican Rep. Elliott Engen, telling him to “go f—ing shoot yourself.” Rep. Aisha Gomez was identified as one of the lawmakers who shouted the disgusting remark at Engen. The same people pushing the most aggressive gun control package in the state’s history were screaming at a Republican colleague to shoot himself. The irony is so thick you could choke on it.
Rep. Engen confirmed the incident himself on X, writing, “Can confirm. Didn’t have multiple Democrat colleagues yelling at me to ‘go f’ing shoot yourself’ on my bingo card…”

Republican state Rep. Drew Roach described the Democrats’ behavior as “completely UNHINGED” and called the attack on Engen “deranged, toxic, and downright dangerous” — especially coming from the very lawmakers hell-bent on disarming law-abiding citizens.

Republicans have blocked the bill on solid constitutional and practical grounds, correctly pointing out that it would criminalize legal firearm ownership while doing absolutely nothing to stop criminals who already have zero regard for existing laws. That’s the dirty little secret the gun control crowd never wants to discuss, laws only work on people who follow them.
As of this writing, House Democratic leadership and Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman have issued no formal statements or press releases addressing the incident. No accountability. No apology. No consequences. Just silence.
If a Republican lawmaker had screamed something like this at a Democrat colleague, it would be wall-to-wall coverage on every major network for a week straight. Don’t hold your breath waiting for that same standard to apply here.
