(DC Pundit) – Ilhan Omar just handed every future primary challenger to a handful of Republican senators the perfect campaign ad, and she did it with a smile on her face.

During a Thursday town hall, Omar openly praised what she called “bipartisan” partners in the Senate who are working to kill the SAVE America Act, the legislation that would require proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. She wasn’t subtle about it.

“One of the other things we are staying vigilant and watching out for is the President’s number one priority, which is the SAVE Act,” Omar told the crowd. “We believe that is a piece of legislation that is going to disenfranchise so many people from their ability to vote.”

The “so many people” Omar is concerned about protecting are, of course, not American citizens, because American citizens already have and can easily obtain the ID required under the bill. The people who stand to lose access to the ballot under the SAVE Act are those who have no legal right to vote in the first place. Omar knows this. Her constituents know this. And apparently, so do the Republican senators she is now publicly thanking.

“We do have, fortunately, partners in the Senate that are bipartisan that are advocating for the bill not to be passed,” Omar said, beaming.

One of those partners is Senate Majority Leader John Thune, a Republican, theoretically, who has repeatedly refused to push the SAVE Act forward. More than 20 Republican senators have called for canceling the August recess until the legislation passes. Thune has refused. Last month, he went so far as to suggest there is no path forward for the bill, claiming that postponing recess would not be “in anybody’s best interest.”

Somebody should ask Thune whether he thinks having Ilhan Omar publicly thank him for his help is in anybody’s best interest.

The stakes here are significant. Without passing the SAVE Act, proof of citizenship and voter ID requirements will not be in place for the upcoming midterm elections. Democrats, and apparently their Republican partners, are counting on exactly that outcome.

President Trump has called the SAVE America Act his number one priority. He laid out evidence of foreign interference in American elections in a primetime address and called on Congress to act. And yet the Senate Majority Leader, a member of Trump’s own party, is standing in the way, earning the open gratitude of one of the most radical members of Congress in the process.

Republican voters put these senators in office to fight for America First, not to earn the gratitude of Ilhan Omar.

(DC Pundit) – A deeply disturbing video has surfaced featuring the Director of Education for a non-profit organization called HiTOPS, and what she openly admits about their goals and tactics should alarm every parent in America.

HiTOPS describes itself on its website as an organization seeking to foster “strong and healthy young people of all identities by providing inclusive and youth-informed sex education and LGBTQ+ support for young people.” The group claims to want a world “where young people are able to flourish because they are at home in their bodies, supported in the development of their sexual and gender identity, and equipped with an understanding of how to have safe, consensual, and healthy relationships.”

In a video shared on X by Gays Against Groomers, Robustelli explained the organization’s targeting strategy with remarkable candor. “The most critical time to be there is grades 5 through 8 because you want to catch kids when they’re starting puberty because that’s the time in which identity formation is central to their lives,” she said.

But grades 5 through 8 apparently isn’t young enough for HiTOPS. Robustelli continued: “However, early intervention is key. So we actually are designing a kindergarten through grade 2 curriculum this summer.”

She then described what she called “one of the most rewarding experiences” — going into an elementary school and working with students in grades 3, 4, and 5. “After we were there, um, 5 students went to the principal’s office and came out,” she said. “So we are really intentionally going into younger and younger grades.”

Kindergartners. They are coming for kindergartners.

It gets worse. Investigative journalists who spoke with HiTOPS leadership in 2023 uncovered the organization’s deliberate strategy for slipping their curriculum into schools without parental awareness or consent. Hannah Wiers, a health educator with the group, was remarkably open about the end goal. “That’s our real, I guess, that’s our, like, real sort of goal would be to remove opt-out class, or like, opt-out policies,” she told the journalists.

In other words, they want to eliminate your ability as a parent to say no.

HiTOPS Executive Director Lisa Shelby revealed one of the tactics they use to get around parental scrutiny — embedding LGBTQ+ content inside a so-called “racial justice” class called “Pathways to Racial Literacy.” Parents cannot opt their children out of that class, which means they have no idea their kids are being taught about sexual health and LGBTQ+ identity inside what appears to be an unrelated course.

Wiers also described another method the group uses to reach children without parental knowledge: sending students messages on school-issued laptops asking what pronouns they prefer or whether they want to go by a different name.

This is not education. This is a coordinated effort to access and influence children while deliberately keeping their parents in the dark. And they are bragging about it on camera.

(DC Pundit) – Brian Romero wants to tax the rich, abolish ICE, and free Palestine. What he apparently cannot do is pay his own rent.

Romero, the Democratic Socialist nominee for New York’s 34th Assembly District, quietly launched a GoFundMe campaign asking supporters to help cover his living expenses, then yanked it down faster than you can say “class warfare” once the New York Post came calling with questions.

The fundraiser sought $2,000 to help cover rent and groceries while Romero waited to be sworn into office. According to the Post, the page had already raised more than $1,000 from 13 donors before Romero pulled it Friday. He described creating it as “a mistake” and claimed he did not keep any of the donated money.

“As many of you know, I had to leave my full time job in the legislature when I got on the ballot for our Assembly race,” Romero wrote on the since-deleted page. “I’m excited that we won and I saved for months to get by but I’ve now depleted my savings as I’m close to closing down some consulting gigs.”

Here’s the part that makes this story particularly rich, pun fully intended. Once sworn in, Romero will earn a $142,000 annual salary as a New York state Assembly member, plus legislative per diem payments while the Legislature is in session. He faces no Republican challenger in November in his heavily Democratic Queens district, meaning his path to that six-figure government paycheck is essentially guaranteed.

Jordan Libowitz, vice president for communications at Citizens for Ethics in Washington, told the Post he could not recall another instance of a lawmaker-elect publicly asking for financial assistance while awaiting office. That tracks, most people waiting on a $142,000 salary don’t typically crowd-source their grocery bills.

State payroll records cited by the Post show Romero earned $106,469 last year as a legislative aide. He lives with his partner in a Jackson Heights apartment that rents for approximately $2,600 a month. After removing the GoFundMe, Romero said personal friends stepped in to bridge the gap.

“I have friends I just reached out to directly who said, ‘We’ll take care of it.’ They’re just dear friends who know me, they know politics. They know sometimes these long breaks are really tough,” he told the Post.

Earlier this summer, at a rally, Romero fired up his socialist base with a call to “Abolish ICE! Free Palestine! And tax the motherf-ing rich!” — a crowd-pleasing trifecta that apparently did not include a plan for covering his own monthly expenses in the interim.

The man who wants to redistribute everyone else’s wealth couldn’t make his own ends meet for a few months between jobs. But sure — hand him the keys to Albany.

(DC Pundit) – New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has a long and growing list of radical policy positions, and he just added another one to the pile. The socialist mayor is refusing to rule out issuing cash reparations to descendants of slaves living in New York City, and he’s leaning on a city commission to give him political cover before he commits either way.

In a podcast episode released this week by The Root’s Charles M. Blow, a written statement Mamdani had submitted as a mayoral candidate was read aloud, in which he declared: “New York City participated actively in the slave trade and furthered its legacy through racist institutions, policies and laws. The city should reconcile and repair this legacy of slavery, stolen wealth and discrimination.”

When Blow asked the mayor directly, “If a commission studying reparations in this city recommended cash reparations for people impacted by slavery in New York City, would you support that recommendation?” — Mamdani did not say no.

Instead, he reaffirmed his written statement: “It’s the truth; it’s not a personal assessment.” He then elaborated: “We often think about slavery and the complicity in slavery as being exclusively to certain geographic areas of the country. Here in New York City, we were very complicit, and so I look forward to whatever those findings are.”

He continued: “I can’t give you an answer in advance of them, but I can tell you that this is critically important, because this is also what it looks like to acknowledge what history truly was.”

Translation: he’s for it, but he wants the commission to take the first arrow before he formally commits. Classic political maneuvering dressed up as thoughtful deliberation.

One of the commission’s findings is due out next summer, at which point Mamdani will presumably find himself in full support of whatever it recommends, assuming it recommends cash payments, which appears to be the direction this is heading.

If Mamdani would like me, a white New Yorker who never owned slaves, to pay a black New Yorker who never was a slave, then I propose:

There is, however, a significant constitutional obstacle standing between Mamdani and his reparations ambitions. The 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause, ratified in 1868 immediately following the Civil War, provides that no state or local government shall “deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” Any attempt by New York City to issue race-based cash payments would almost certainly trigger an immediate constitutional challenge that would likely land before the U.S. Supreme Court. If the justices rule in fidelity with the Constitution, reparations will be struck down.

New York City is already facing serious fiscal challenges, rampant crime, and a homelessness crisis that shows no signs of improvement under Mamdani’s leadership. The idea that his administration’s priority is figuring out how to write checks based on ancestry rather than fixing the city people actually live in today tells you everything you need to know about where his head is at.
