(DC Pundit) – President Donald Trump confirmed Monday that a threat tied to Iran forced the U.S. military to move its B-1 bombers out of a British air base, and he had a warning for Tehran if it was plotting something.
Roughly a dozen of the bombers were pulled from RAF Fairford in Britain on Sunday amid urgent concerns about a “potentially complex drone attack” ordered by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to the Wall Street Journal. The paper cited U.S. and European officials briefed on the threat. Fairford is a longtime hub for American heavy bombers deployed to Europe, and the B-1 Lancer is a supersonic strategic bomber the Air Force has flown for decades. The IRGC has been designated a foreign terrorist organization by the United States since 2019.
Officials told the Journal the drone strike was allegedly just one piece of a broader Iranian plan to destroy aircraft at the base and kill personnel, including American pilots. U.S. military officials in Europe had also been warned in late September about the possibility of a vehicle-borne explosive attack. Axios separately reported, citing U.S. officials, that intelligence pointed to a possible Iranian drone attack launched from British soil, endangering both American personnel and the bombers.
Speaking to reporters on the White House South Lawn, Trump confirmed that a threat was behind the move and said the aircraft “didn’t fly out by accident.”
“There were some threats,” Trump said. “And rather than tempting the enemy, we’ll capture the enemy and beat the enemy.”
Asked whether the people behind the threat were connected to Iran, he didn’t hedge.
“They would be linked to Iran.”

Notice what the president did and didn’t do here. He acknowledged the threat, owned the decision to protect American crews and aircraft, and named the likely culprit, which is more candor than the usual Washington routine of “we don’t comment on intelligence matters.” It’s a refreshing change for anyone tired of a government that treats basic questions like classified secrets.
Trump did stop short of confirming the more specific intelligence about a drone operation. Asked whether Iran may have brought combat drones into the United Kingdom, he left the door open but made clear what would follow.
“I can’t tell you that, but if they did, they’ll suffer greatly.”

Tehran now has the message directly from the commander in chief.
