URGENT: CLICK TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST THE LEFT!
(DC Pundit) – Elizabeth Waffle is 88 years old. She lives in a trailer in Milan, Michigan, after her house burned down two years ago. She owns an old pickup truck. She does not own a computer. Her internet is spotty. She lives on a modest pension.
According to federal records, she also apparently donated $150,000 to Democratic candidates and causes over the past five years, roughly eight donations a day, every single day, averaging $9.18 each, for a grand total of 14,696 separate transactions.
She has a few words about that.
“One hundred and fifty thousand?” Waffle said when Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Charlie LeDuff of the Michigan Enjoyer showed up at her door with the paperwork. “Hell no. I don’t have that kind of money.”
LeDuff brought her the Federal Election Commission data compiled by researcher Bob Cushman, which shows Waffle donating from both her current trailer and from an apartment she briefly rented in town, sometimes on the same day. The records also list contributions to out-of-state candidates she says she has never heard of in her life. Waffle acknowledges making a few dozen small donations over the years. A few dozen. Not fourteen thousand six hundred and ninety-six.
“This is very abnormal,” she said, reviewing the documents. “I think it’s wrong, and I think there’s something in there that’s off.”
That would be quite the understatement.
Among the donations attributed to Waffle are 47 contributions to Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Socialist running in Michigan’s Senate primary. El-Sayed’s campaign has boasted that he is the state’s top ActBlue fundraiser, pulling in ten times the small-dollar donations of Representative Haley Stevens (D-MI) — a claim that looks considerably less impressive if a significant portion of those donations are being falsely attributed to elderly retirees who can barely afford their internet bill. A Detroit News/WDIV poll released this month put Stevens ahead of El-Sayed by roughly seven points.
The story quickly caught fire on X, where users were understandably alarmed. One pointed out that the platform had “assigned hundreds of thousands to elderly donors that clearly didn’t give the money,” before asking the obvious question: “Where is this money really coming from? Needs to be investigated.”
That is exactly the right question. ActBlue, the dominant Democratic small-dollar fundraising platform, has faced questions before about its donor verification practices. If an 88-year-old widow living on a pension in a trailer is showing up in FEC records as having made nearly fifteen thousand donations totaling $150,000, money she says she absolutely did not give, then someone needs to explain where that money is actually coming from and whose name it is being laundered through.
Democrats have spent years insisting their small-dollar fundraising operation is the gold standard of grassroots democracy. Elizabeth Waffle’s paperwork suggests a very different story.
