(DC Pundit) – You have to hand it to Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White, when they want to make a point, they don’t exactly do it quietly.
The two former NBA players recently declared themselves women and formally entered their names for the 2027 WNBA Draft, apparently curious to see just how far the league’s gender identity policies actually extend. Turns out, not that far, at least not when the people testing them are 6-foot-10 former professional basketball players.
The WNBA wasted little time shutting the whole thing down, stating it “is not going to give oxygen to efforts designed to mock the league or use this topic to demean and marginalize others” and adding that it “will not allow outside pressure or manufactured controversy to dictate league processes.” Both men were ruled ineligible to enter the draft or play in the women’s circuit.

The league’s collective bargaining agreement specifies that only women are eligible to play, though notably it contains no further language defining sex or gender identity. That particular gap in the rulebook is precisely what Freedom and White decided to poke at.
Freedom, who played over a decade in the NBA and is well known for his outspoken human rights advocacy, particularly against the Chinese Communist Party, took his demonstration a step further by showing up to a Chicago Sky game wearing a T-shirt that read “WOMAN noun. adult human female.” That’s a dictionary definition, for those keeping score at home.
Things got heated when Sky guard Natasha Cloud approached Freedom during a timeout and shouted at him. Security ultimately escorted Freedom from the arena. He later explained that he had simply celebrated a three-pointer and responded that he was there to protect women.

And that’s really the heart of the matter, isn’t it? For years, conservatives have been raising serious concerns about biological males competing in women’s sports, only to be dismissed as hateful, transphobic, and out of touch. The left has had no problem allowing biological men to demolish women’s records in swimming, track, and cycling, but the moment two high-profile men decide to highlight the absurdity of it all by actually following the logic to its conclusion, the WNBA suddenly finds its backbone.
The league’s swift rejection of Freedom and White effectively draws a line it has never publicly been willing to draw before, that adult men don’t belong in women’s sports. Which, of course, is exactly what conservatives have been saying all along.
Funny how that works.
