(DC Pundit) – A major 30-year study out of Finland has confirmed what common sense has been screaming for years: adolescents who identify as “transgender” end up with far more mental health troubles after “gender reassignment” procedures like irreversible genital mutilation surgery and hormone therapy.
The research, published in the medical journal Acta Paediatrica, tracks real outcomes instead of activist talking points. It stands as yet another body blow to the radical transgender movement, which keeps pushing experimental interventions on confused young people despite mounting evidence of harm.
The study itself points out the gap between hype and reality: “often suggested to be beneficial, even vital, for the mental health of adolescents suffering from GD [gender dysphoria], but the evidence supporting subsequent improvements in mental health, quality of life, or functioning is very limited.”
Researchers examined 2,083 individuals referred to gender identity clinics in Finland between 1996 and 2019, all under age 23 at referral, and compared them to controls. The results were stark. For some, especially young men identifying as female, psychiatric problems exploded afterward. “Among adolescents who underwent medical gender reassignment, psychiatric morbidity increased markedly during follow-up, rising from 9.8% to 60.7% in feminising gender reassignment and from 21.6% to 54.5% in masculinising gender reassignment.”

Even after adjusting for previous treatment, the risks remained sky-high. “After adjusting for prior psychiatric treatment, all gender-referred adolescents had similarly elevated risks of psychiatric morbidity, with hazard ratios approximately three times higher than female controls and five times higher than male controls,” the researchers found.
In plain English, these kids already struggled with serious underlying issues, and the surgeries and hormones often made things worse, especially depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. The study concludes: “These adolescents had markedly higher psychiatric morbidity than controls before and after referral, with treatment needs often persisting and even intensifying after medical interventions — on some, they might even have a negative impact.”
This shouldn’t shock anyone with a functioning brain. We don’t let minors buy beer, cigarettes, or sign contracts because they lack maturity. Yet somehow the same crowd insists it’s enlightened to let emotionally unstable teens chop off body parts or start a lifetime of cross-sex hormones.
This Finnish data lines up with growing regret stories, like the New York case where a jury awarded $2 million to a young woman whose doctors rushed to remove her breasts at age 16. That verdict signaled the tide is turning against this medical scandal.

Conservatives have warned for years that this wasn’t healthcare, it was ideological experimentation dressed up as compassion. The left’s obsession with transgender ideology ignores biology and basic child protection. While they lecture everyone about “science,” actual long-term studies keep proving their approach inflicts lasting damage.
Parents and policymakers paying attention should treat this as a clear signal: protect kids from irreversible decisions they’ll regret. Real care means addressing root mental health problems, not mutilating bodies in pursuit of a fantasy. The evidence keeps piling up, and this radical experiment on our youth needs to end.
