URGENT: CLICK TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST THE LEFT!
(DC Pundit) – California Governor Gavin Newsom has once again shown exactly why so many Americans are fleeing his mismanaged state. He’s announced plans to slap a 100% tax on any California residents who receive payouts from President Donald Trump’s new $1.776 billion anti-weaponization fund.
This comes after President Trump wisely dismissed a massive $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS and instead set up the fund to “hear and redress claims of others who suffered weaponization and lawfare.” Let’s call this what it is: a long-overdue effort to help victims of the weaponized federal bureaucracy that plagued conservatives for years under the previous administration. Newsom, never one to miss a chance to punish Trump supporters, is fighting back the only way he knows how, by reaching into Californians’ pockets.
“Anyone from California that receives any of those funds we want to tax 100 percent of those proceeds,” Newsom told reporters during a press conference in his office, according to Politico. He dismissed the whole thing as a “slush fund.” The irony here is rich. California already struggles with sky-high taxes, homelessness, and businesses bolting for red states, yet Newsom wants to punish his own residents for accepting help against government abuse. It’s almost as if protecting citizens from federal overreach threatens the left’s favorite political tool.
Legal observers are calling Newsom’s scheme an illegal bill of attainder, an act that punishes specific people without a trial. Article 1, Section 9, Clause 3 of the Constitution explicitly forbids this kind of targeting. But when has the modern Democratic Party let little things like the Constitution get in their way?
This isn’t isolated madness. In New York, Democratic State Assemblyman Alex Bores introduced legislation to tax 100% of any funds received from the payouts. Bores is running to replace retiring Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler in Congress. In New Jersey, Democratic state lawmaker Sen. Andrew Zwicker is pushing a similar bill, calling the 100% tax a “brilliant counter to Trump’s corruption” in an interview with Politico.
President Trump defended the fund in a Truth Social post, stating it is to help people who have been “badly abused by an evil, corrupt, and weaponized Biden Administration.”

For context, this all traces back to the 2019 leak of Trump’s tax records during his first term. Former IRS contractor Charles Littlejohn was sentenced to five years in prison in January 2024 after pleading guilty to releasing 15 years of Trump’s tax records to media outlets. The original lawsuit was filed by Trump against the IRS and Treasury Department in a Miami Federal Court in January 2026 over the alleged mishandling of that protected information.
Here’s the bigger picture conservatives understand all too well: the left spent years cheering the weaponization of government agencies against their political enemies. Now that President Trump is in office delivering actual justice and relief, blue-state Democrats are scrambling to block everyday Americans from receiving fair redress. It’s petty, vindictive, and reveals their true priority: power over people.
Newsom’s latest stunt will likely drive even more productive Californians to pack up and head to freedom-loving states. Meanwhile, President Trump continues proving he’s serious about draining the swamp and protecting citizens from the very abuses Democrats now desperately defend.
