(DC Pundit) – Barack Obama has found his voice again, and of course it’s to defend Rep. Ilhan Omar. The former president took to X to complain that the Trump administration is going after the Minnesota Democrat over her politics. Naturally, the man who targeted Trump is deeply concerned about the rule of law.
Early last week, agents with Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant at Omar’s Washington home. The Department of Justice says the warrant was “judicially authorized,” meaning an actual federal judge looked at the evidence and signed off. The DOJ approved it, and the search is part of an “ongoing federal investigation.” Fox News reported that the probe centers on immigration paperwork completed by Omar’s late father when she was a child.
It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.

Omar, who arrived in the U.S. as a Somali refugee in 1995 and became a citizen in 2000, denies any wrongdoing. But she didn’t stop at denial. She declared on X, “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.” Her office called it an “outrageous abuse of power.” Translation: when a judge signs a warrant, it’s a conspiracy. When a Democrat’s name is on the paperwork, it’s persecution.
Here’s the part the left hopes you’ll skip. Nobody has been charged with anything. If Omar’s records are clean, an investigation will confirm it, and she can enjoy her vindication on cable news for weeks. Hard to see why the Democratic Party’s most reliable defenders of “no one is above the law” suddenly act as if one particular member of Congress should be.
Back to Obama. X users wasted no time reminding the former president that he’s the last person who should be lecturing anyone about government power and political opponents. Many pointed straight to the Russia investigation into Trump’s 2016 campaign, which started on his watch and that conservatives have called a politically driven hoax for years, which is exactly what it was. Nothing says “principled stand” like selective amnesia.

Omar is on the ballot November 3, and Democrats are pointing to the timing as proof of foul play. But the clock on an investigation doesn’t stop for a campaign calendar, and a judge, not a talking point, decided there was enough to warrant a search.
If Omar has nothing to hide, she has nothing to worry about. And if Obama wants to defend her, he might want to explain why the rules only matter when they apply to the other side.
