(DC Pundit) – Chick-fil-A CEO Andrew Cathy recently sat down with NBC’s Craig Melvin, and the network’s resident corporate news hack got nothing for his trouble. Not an apology, not a retreat, and not one scrap of bulletin-board material for the company’s haters.
The conversation, part of NBC’s “Business in America” series on Today, was reportedly Cathy’s first broadcast interview since taking over as CEO. It covered the chain’s history, its growth, and its Christian faith, and Cathy didn’t tiptoe around the last one.
“It is our anchor, in the sense of what our corporate purpose states: that we’re in business to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that’s entrusted to us and have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A,” Cathy told Melvin.
That’s the kind of answer that keeps radical leftists up at night.
Then came the question everybody saw coming. Melvin dragged up 2012, when Cathy’s father, Dan Cathy, then the company’s CEO, publicly said Chick-fil-A opposed gay marriage. That set off boycotts from thousands of woke Americans, over a view that was shared by tens of millions of Americans at the time, and still is today. Imagine that: a company’s leader expressing an opinion and getting punished for it.
Cathy didn’t take the bait. “Anybody who hasn’t tried us, we’d love for you to come try and have our great-tasting food and the hospitality that we’re known for,” Cathy replied.
“Everybody that’s willing to walk in the door, they’re welcome to come eat with us,” he added. “We would love to give them a great-tasting sandwich and great hospitality.”
Melvin, of course, kept badgering. He asked whether Cathy wanted to talk about that “chapter” in the company’s history, then demanded the company’s “official position on equal rights.” Cathy stayed calm. “We’re focused on serving everybody that’s coming to eat with us.”

The media class, naturally, wasn’t satisfied. Former Today host Katie Couric called it a “non answer answer.” Translation: he didn’t say what they wanted to hear.
Cathy didn’t need to. Chick-fil-A is still closed on Sundays, still unapologetic about its faith, and still one of the most popular fast-food chains in America. Maybe corporate America should take notes. Serve the food, treat people well, and let the activists stew.
