(DC Pundit) – New York City has a firebombing problem. More specifically, it has a “releasing violent illegal aliens back onto the streets” problem, and the two are now directly connected.
Yogesh Sayrange, 36, a citizen of Guyana living in the United States illegally, was arrested Thursday after allegedly hurling Molotov cocktails at two Queens churches and an ambulette company in the dead of night. Sayrange targeted Iglesia Bautista El Mesias Baptist Church in Ozone Park just before midnight, where surveillance video showed him speaking with three men before lighting a Molotov cocktail and throwing it over the front gate toward the entrance. He then strolled less than a mile to a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and allegedly threw a second Molotov cocktail at the front entrance at 12:08 a.m. A third was thrown at Exclusive Ambulette Service Transportation Corp.
Officers caught up with Sayrange at a nearby deli at approximately 12:10 a.m. and found two additional Molotov cocktails in his backpack. His response? “I had two more in my bag. I was going to finish the job.” Charming.
Near the Kingdom Hall, Sayrange had also allegedly asked a group of men, “Do you want this institution to be turned into a mosque?” — a question that answers itself in terms of motive.
Federal authorities had already flagged Sayrange before the church attacks. He was linked to a June 25 firebombing of a Brooklyn smoke shop, where he allegedly threw an incendiary device, a green glass bottle wrapped with screws and containing hair, rocks, an ignitable liquid, and other materials, while wearing a Guy Fawkes mask. Prosecutors say he is connected to at least seven other acts of arson over the past two weeks. He also had two pending state cases: one for threatening someone with a metal-knuckle knife, another for waving an ax at a man and threatening to cut his head off.
He was arrested twice in June. Released twice.

This is the direct consequence of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s proud refusal to cooperate with ICE. During the first six months of his administration, DHS repeatedly condemned New York for refusing to honor ICE detainers. The result? Nearly 7,000 criminal illegal aliens released statewide, including murderers, sex offenders, and violent assailants. As of February, 7,113 aliens with active detainers remained in New York custody facing charges that included 148 homicides, 717 assaults, 235 dangerous drug offenses, and 260 sexual predatory offenses.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin urged the city to turn over criminal aliens before their release. Mamdani’s answer was to reverse a planned 580-officer NYPD expansion and propose replacing cops with unarmed “community outreach workers” for crisis response.
Meanwhile, when an NYPD officer shot a man advancing toward him with a kitchen knife, Mamdani visited the man in the hospital. Not the officer. The guy with the knife.
New Yorkers voted for this. Hopefully they’re paying attention now.
