(DC Pundit) – Here’s a simple question: did you marry your brother? For most Americans, the answer takes a split second and contains the word “no.” For Rep. Ilhan Omar, it takes a nervous laugh and a shrug.
The Minnesota Democrat sat down Wednesday with MS Now’s Chris Hayes, her first interview since federal agents searched her Washington-area home on Oct. 12. Hayes asked about her 2009 marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.
“Who was this man that was your husband? When did they start saying that he was your brother? Why?” Hayes asked.
Omar appeared nervous while laughing and said, “It started with the Somali blog that I don’t know if it still exists, but somebody put him there that, you know, that he had to have been my brother or something to that effect, and right-wing conspiracy theorists in Minneapolis got a hold of it.”
She continued, “And they just kind of went and like found random people who were like, she introduced us, you know, ‘she introduced him to us and said he was her brother,’ which is, you know, insane. I mean, I don’t, I don’t know those people that they talk about.”
Hayes then asked, “You were not related to him at all? There’s not some weird kernel of truth?”
Omar’s reply: “Not to my knowledge.”
Q: “Did you marry your brother?”
Normal people: “No.”
Ilhan Omar: “Not to my knowledge.”

Not to her knowledge. This is a congresswoman who never hesitates to lecture the country on everything from foreign policy to who belongs in America, and she suddenly can’t confirm her own family tree.
What is documented is that she married Elmi in 2009 and divorced him in 2017, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Omar, who is 44 and has represented Minneapolis since 2018, also spent years legally married to Elmi while filing joint tax returns with another man, a fact the Star Tribune has reported.
The Justice Department says Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant as part of an ongoing federal investigation. Fox News Digital, citing sources, reported that the probe involves her immigration paperwork, and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said last month that it relates in part to whether she lied on her immigration forms. In addition, investigators have reportedly obtained her DNA and the warrant lists her under the name “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi.”

Omar insists she has done nothing wrong and calls the raid political targeting.
If the answer to marrying her brother really is “no,” it’s an easy one to give.
