(DC Pundit) – Federal sources close to the Omar investigation have dropped a bombshell: the name “Ilhan Omar” that the Minnesota Democrat has used for years is not her real one. Her actual name is Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, the same surname shared by her former husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Two sources familiar with the probe confirmed it.
The Department of Justice was not subtle about it either. In a court filing tied to the October 12 raid on her Washington, D.C., home, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office identified the congresswoman as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.” Agents walked out of that pre-dawn search with her DNA, passport, phone, and other evidence while looking into immigration fraud allegations that have followed her for years.
A former Minnesota federal immigration judge put the stakes in plain English. If it is proven she lived her “entire life under an alias,” every form she has ever signed could be “called into question.” Omar has never produced a birth certificate, insisting it vanished during Somalia’s unrest. Convenient.

The shared surname with her ex-husband has revived the long-simmering claim that the 2009 marriage was something other than a standard love story. When MS Now’s Chris Hayes asked her this week whether that ex-husband was her biological brother, Omar did not offer a simple no. She said, “not to my knowledge.”
Q: “Did you marry your brother?”
Normal people: “No.”
Ilhan Omar: “Not to my knowledge.”

Not to her knowledge. As if family trees are optional reading. Most people can answer that question without reaching for the “to the best of my” escape hatch. The DNA now sitting with federal investigators may soon remove any remaining ambiguity.
For a progressive icon who has spent years lecturing the country about honesty, accountability, and the rule of law, the sudden uncertainty about her own name and family ties is quite the spectacle. Conservatives have been pointing out the red flags for years. The Justice Department appears to have finally decided to stop looking the other way.
