(DC Pundit) – Remember when the media spent months gleefully predicting that Pete Hegseth would run the Pentagon straight into the ground? How’s that narrative holding up these days?
Not particularly well, it turns out. The U.S. Army has officially smashed its 2026 recruiting goals, four months ahead of schedule, delivering yet another concrete, measurable win for President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Hegseth. Army officials confirmed this week that the service has already brought in more than 61,500 new soldiers, as patriotic Americans continue answering the call to serve in numbers that would have seemed unimaginable just a couple of years ago.
Hegseth made the announcement himself during a commencement address at the United States Military Academy at West Point, an appropriately fitting venue for delivering news of a military resurgence. “Recruitments are up across the joint force, and I’m pleased to announce that, just two days ago, the U.S. Army met its 2026 recruiting goals four months early,” he told the graduating class.
To fully appreciate how significant this turnaround is, you have to remember what the Army looked like under Joe Biden. It was not a pretty picture. Recruitment numbers repeatedly fell short of targets as military leadership became increasingly consumed by DEI initiatives, woke identity politics, vaccine mandates, and progressive social engineering that had absolutely nothing to do with battlefield readiness and everything to do with appeasing the activist left. Young Americans, particularly the patriotic, physically fit, service-minded young men who have historically formed the backbone of military recruitment, looked at what the Biden military had become and walked the other way. Can you blame them?
The results were predictably dismal. Morale cratered. Confidence in military leadership collapsed. And the Army missed its recruiting goals with the kind of consistency that would get any private sector organization completely overhauled from top to bottom.
Then came Trump and Hegseth, and with them a restored emphasis on what the military is actually supposed to be about: patriotism, strength, combat readiness, and mission-first leadership. The results have been nothing short of remarkable. The Pentagon previously reported that the Army exceeded its 2025 recruiting target as well, bringing in more than 62,000 recruits after setting a goal of 61,000. Back-to-back record years. Not bad for an administration the media assured us would destroy the armed forces.
Command Sgt. Maj. Danny Basham captured the spirit of the moment well. “The men and women who chose to serve our nation are actively showing their commitment to something larger than themselves,” he said in a statement. “The nation depends on their strength, character and commitment.”
That’s exactly right. And it’s worth noting that those words: commitment to something larger than oneself, strength, character — were conspicuously absent from the vocabulary of the Pentagon’s Biden-era leadership, which seemed far more interested in pronoun policies and diversity metrics than in producing warriors capable of defending this nation.
The corporate media and Democrat critics who savaged Trump’s selection of Hegseth as Pentagon chief, predicting embarrassment, incompetence, and institutional collapse, owe the American public an apology. They won’t deliver one, of course, because accountability has never exactly been their strong suit. But the scoreboard doesn’t lie.
Under Trump’s America First leadership, the United States military is getting its edge back. And that is very good news for every American who understands that a strong military is the foundation upon which everything else rests.
