(DC Pundit) – President Donald Trump has delivered another promise kept to the American people, taking to Truth Social on Saturday to announce he has approved new fuel economy standards that effectively drive a stake through the heart of Joe Biden’s deeply unpopular electric vehicle mandate.
For millions of Americans who never wanted to be forced into an EV they couldn’t afford, couldn’t charge, and didn’t ask for, this is very welcome news.
Trump made the announcement in typically colorful fashion: “BIG DAY FOR AMERICAN AUTO WORKERS AND CAR BUYERS! I have just approved new Fuel Economy Standards that TERMINATE Sleepy Joe Biden and Pete Boot-EDGE-EDGE’s ridiculous EV Mandate. The Dumocrats cost our Great Auto Manufacturers $Billions, forced Americans into cars they never wanted, and wasted Billions on Chargers that were never built.”

Hard to argue with any of that. The Biden administration spent years strong-arming the auto industry and American consumers into an electric vehicle future that the market simply was not demanding, funneling billions of taxpayer dollars into a charging infrastructure that was, by most accounts, an embarrassing mess of broken stations and unfulfilled contracts.
Trump’s new standards terminate the EPA’s electric vehicle mandate outright and are designed to bring real relief to both manufacturers and everyday car buyers.
“These new Standards will take the waste out of building cars in America. That means LOWER PRICES, saving families thousands on a new, beautiful, and safe car,” Trump wrote. “Far better than the Environmental Monsters that we were building heretofore. Every Manufacturer, from General Motors to Ford to Stellantis, has called me wanting to build here, and now they can!”
And there it is. The same auto giants that were being crushed under the weight of Biden-era mandates are now lining up to build on American soil again. That is what real economic policy looks like.
The left’s EV push was never genuinely about clean air or a better future for working families. It was a top-down social engineering project disguised as environmental policy, designed to reshape American consumer behavior whether Americans wanted it reshaped or not. The fact that billions were spent on chargers that were never actually built tells you everything you need to know about how competently the whole scheme was managed.

Trump’s decision puts American automakers back in the driver’s seat — pun fully intended — and gives consumers the freedom to choose the vehicle that works for their life and their budget. That is exactly what conservatives have been asking for.
