URGENT: CLICK TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST THE LEFT!
(DC Pundit) – Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has managed to say something so jaw-dropping that even by California standards, it stands in a category of its own. During a City Hall press conference on Wednesday, Bass defended homeless drug use by suggesting that methamphetamine serves a protective purpose for people living on the street.
“You sleep out on the street for a couple of weeks and tell me that you’re not using something to stay sane or using meth so that you don’t go to sleep to protect yourself,” Bass said, delivering what may be the most stunning normalization of hard drug use ever uttered by a sitting big-city mayor.
Then came the backpedal. When a reporter followed up by noting, “You said that people are on the street using meth for protection,” Bass erupted.
“Well, no. What I said is— no! What I said is is that I know that people have used meth to stay awake at night, so they don’t fall asleep because they’re worried about being assaulted. Meth is not protection!” she snapped.
So to recap: Bass said it, got called out for saying it, and then insisted she didn’t say it. The press conference footage, of course, says otherwise.
Bass is also facing fire for suggesting that Los Angeles taxpayers should foot the bill for dental care for homeless meth addicts. The reasoning she offered at a candidate forum last week was, to put it charitably, something.
“How many people that you meet that are unhoused don’t have teeth at all? They don’t have teeth. Why? Because meth rots your teeth,” Bass said. “You can’t succeed without teeth. So there needs to be comprehensive healthcare provided to people.”
There it is. The meth addiction destroys people’s teeth, so taxpayers should pay for new ones. The addiction itself, the root cause of the entire problem, apparently warrants no such urgency. Just hand over your tax dollars and don’t ask too many questions.
Former Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate Spencer Pratt, who ran against Bass, was not impressed. Pratt cut through the noise with the kind of clarity that apparently eludes the mayor entirely.
“Homelessness doesn’t cause drug addiction. Drug addiction causes homelessness,” Pratt said. “3 year olds understand this. Why doesn’t Karen Bass?”

It’s a fair question. Los Angeles has spent billions of dollars on homelessness under Bass’s watch with precious little to show for it. Rather than confronting the drug crisis driving people onto the streets, the mayor is out here rationalizing meth use at press conferences and floating taxpayer-funded dental plans for the consequences of addiction she refuses to address.
Bass is currently running for reelection. Los Angeles voters might want to keep this press conference in mind.
