URGENT: CLICK TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST THE LEFT!
(DC Pundit) – Remember when Democrats used to say abortion should be safe, legal, and rare? Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey just rendered that talking point permanently obsolete.
Healey has signed H.5595 into law, legislation that legalizes abortion in Massachusetts up to the moment of birth. Not up to viability. Not up to the third trimester. Up to birth. Nine months. The day a child would otherwise enter the world alive.
This is not a political abstraction. This is a medical reality that requires confronting directly. Premature babies can survive outside the womb as early as 22 to 24 weeks of gestation, roughly five to six months into pregnancy. Survival rates and health outcomes improve significantly with each additional week. Neonatal intensive care units across the country have celebrated the survival of babies born at these early gestational ages. Many of them are now children, teenagers, and adults living full lives.
Under the law Healey just signed, those same babies, at that same stage of development, can be legally aborted in Massachusetts.
There is no medical justification that makes abortion up to birth a routine healthcare matter. Late-term abortions are not necessary to protect the life of the mother in the vast majority of cases, that argument has been repeatedly challenged by medical professionals and data. What H.5595 represents is the complete and total abandonment of any pretense that the Democratic Party’s position on abortion has limits of any kind.
For years, the left insisted that conservative warnings about abortion-on-demand up to birth were right-wing fearmongering. Massachusetts just proved those warnings were accurate. What was dismissed as an extreme hypothetical is now the law, signed enthusiastically by a Democratic governor who faces zero political consequences from her own party for doing so.
The distance between the two major political parties on this issue has never been clearer. Republicans passed the most sweeping pro-life legislation in American history at the state level following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Democrats, meanwhile, are signing bills that would allow the termination of a pregnancy at 39 weeks.
That is not healthcare. That is not a women’s rights issue. That is the deliberate ending of a human life at the moment it is most recognizable as one, and the Governor of Massachusetts just put her signature on it.
