(DC Pundit) – A two-and-a-half month old baby girl named Londyn Gonzalez was found dead in a Cheektowaga, New York apartment on July 7, 2023. She was born healthy at 6 pounds, 8 ounces on April 20 of that year. By the time paramedics responded to a call for an unresponsive child, she weighed just 8 pounds, 4 ounces — a tragic indication of what her final weeks of life looked like. Her death was ruled the result of malnutrition and dehydration.
Her parents, Luis Gonzalez Jr., 26, and Kitrina Udrea, 23, both of Buffalo, were charged with second-degree manslaughter. Medical providers had warned them during follow-up appointments that Londyn was not gaining weight properly and instructed them to increase her formula intake. The parents skipped their last follow-up on May 8, just 30 days before their daughter died. They pleaded guilty in May.
“The investigation determined that the defendants, while acting in concert with one another, recklessly caused the death of their infant daughter,” Erie County District Attorney Mike Keane said in a statement. Keane added: “As we advised the court, this crime was not a brief lapse in judgment or a single poor decision, but the intentional withholding of nutrition for several weeks from their own baby. The cries of their hungry newborn and the advice of medical professionals fell on deaf ears.”
The charge carried a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison for each parent.
What did they actually receive at sentencing? Forty-five days in jail and five years of probation.

Judge James F. Bargnesi, a Democrat, called their behavior “absolutely outrageous” and “absolutely inexcusable” at sentencing, before handing down a sentence that rendered those words completely meaningless. Describing something as outrageous and inexcusable and then sentencing the perpetrators to 45 days in jail is not justice. It is an insult to Londyn Gonzalez and every parent who has ever lost a child.
DA Keane, also a Democrat, called this the “highest sustainable charge” and the “sole count of the indictment.” He secured the guilty plea, and then watched the judge hand down a sentence with virtually no teeth. Keane was elected by a 19-point margin in 2024 and his term runs through January 1, 2029. Voters in Erie County should keep that in mind.
A newborn baby was intentionally starved to death over the course of several weeks. Her parents ignored her cries and disregarded explicit medical guidance. They pleaded guilty to manslaughter. And they will serve 45 days.
This is what happens when Democrats control the judiciary. This is what they mean when they talk about criminal justice reform. And the people paying the price are the most vulnerable among us, in this case, a baby girl who never had a chance.
