(DC Pundit) – California Governor Gavin Newsom has once again shown exactly why so many Americans are fleeing his mismanaged state. He’s announced plans to slap a 100% tax on any California residents who receive payouts from President Donald Trump’s new $1.776 billion anti-weaponization fund.

This comes after President Trump wisely dismissed a massive $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS and instead set up the fund to “hear and redress claims of others who suffered weaponization and lawfare.” Let’s call this what it is: a long-overdue effort to help victims of the weaponized federal bureaucracy that plagued conservatives for years under the previous administration. Newsom, never one to miss a chance to punish Trump supporters, is fighting back the only way he knows how, by reaching into Californians’ pockets.

“Anyone from California that receives any of those funds we want to tax 100 percent of those proceeds,” Newsom told reporters during a press conference in his office, according to Politico. He dismissed the whole thing as a “slush fund.” The irony here is rich. California already struggles with sky-high taxes, homelessness, and businesses bolting for red states, yet Newsom wants to punish his own residents for accepting help against government abuse. It’s almost as if protecting citizens from federal overreach threatens the left’s favorite political tool.

Legal observers are calling Newsom’s scheme an illegal bill of attainder, an act that punishes specific people without a trial. Article 1, Section 9, Clause 3 of the Constitution explicitly forbids this kind of targeting. But when has the modern Democratic Party let little things like the Constitution get in their way?

This isn’t isolated madness. In New York, Democratic State Assemblyman Alex Bores introduced legislation to tax 100% of any funds received from the payouts. Bores is running to replace retiring Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler in Congress. In New Jersey, Democratic state lawmaker Sen. Andrew Zwicker is pushing a similar bill, calling the 100% tax a “brilliant counter to Trump’s corruption” in an interview with Politico.

President Trump defended the fund in a Truth Social post, stating it is to help people who have been “badly abused by an evil, corrupt, and weaponized Biden Administration.”

For context, this all traces back to the 2019 leak of Trump’s tax records during his first term. Former IRS contractor Charles Littlejohn was sentenced to five years in prison in January 2024 after pleading guilty to releasing 15 years of Trump’s tax records to media outlets. The original lawsuit was filed by Trump against the IRS and Treasury Department in a Miami Federal Court in January 2026 over the alleged mishandling of that protected information.

Here’s the bigger picture conservatives understand all too well: the left spent years cheering the weaponization of government agencies against their political enemies. Now that President Trump is in office delivering actual justice and relief, blue-state Democrats are scrambling to block everyday Americans from receiving fair redress. It’s petty, vindictive, and reveals their true priority: power over people.

Newsom’s latest stunt will likely drive even more productive Californians to pack up and head to freedom-loving states. Meanwhile, President Trump continues proving he’s serious about draining the swamp and protecting citizens from the very abuses Democrats now desperately defend.

(DC Pundit) – For months, Antifa agitators have been making life miserable outside the Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey. They’ve harassed staff, blocked access, and generally behaved like the law didn’t apply to them. Turns out, all it took to end the circus was the right person picking up the phone.

Late Sunday night, New Jersey law enforcement moved in and swept up the Antifa rioters who had been staging their prolonged blockade outside the facility. The Department of Homeland Security wasted no time celebrating the result, posting a blunt message for anyone still thinking about trying their luck: “ZERO tolerance for rioters.”

Short, direct, and to the point. Someone in the Trump administration has clearly figured out how communication works.

DHS officials made clear they were pleased with the outcome, highlighting the successful shutdown of a protest operation that had been allowed to fester for far too long. The intervention, however, didn’t come from some sudden awakening of civic duty on the part of New Jersey’s Democratic leadership. It came because President Donald Trump’s homeland security chief, Markwayne Mullin, threatened to pull customs officers out of nearby Newark Liberty International Airport. Nothing motivates a Democratic governor quite like an economic consequence with her name on it.

That governor is Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat who took office earlier this year. To her credit, and this is not a sentence conservatives get to write very often about New Jersey Democrats, she ordered state police to clear the demonstrators once Mullin’s threat landed. The results were immediate and effective. The Antifa crowd was driven away from the detention center, and the operation produced what can only be described as lamentations from Antifa women who apparently expected a different outcome.

Sherrill’s decision was not universally applauded within her own party. Progressive groups and Antifa-aligned organizations howled in protest at the crackdown, while Democratic legislators reportedly responded with a quiet mixture of anger and acceptance. Translation: they were furious but smart enough to realize there was nothing they could do about it.

This is precisely how the Trump administration’s pressure campaign is supposed to work. When the federal government makes clear there are real consequences for enabling chaos, even reluctant Democratic governors eventually blink. Sherrill blinked. The mob dispersed. The ICE facility can now operate without running a daily gauntlet of radical protesters.

It shouldn’t have taken months of harassment and a threat to Newark’s airport to make this happen. But in the current political climate, a win is a win, and the message from DHS couldn’t be clearer: the days of Antifa operating as an untouchable street force outside federal facilities are over.

(DC Pundit) – The high school career of transgender athlete AB Hernandez came to a close Saturday night at the California Interscholastic Federation state track and field championship, and it ended exactly the way it’s been going for two years: with Hernandez on top, and a whole lot of uncomfortable questions left unanswered.

Hernandez claimed first place in both the girls’ high jump and triple jump, and third in the long jump. For those keeping score at home, that mirrors last year’s performance almost identically, when Hernandez won the triple jump and high jump state championships and finished second in the long jump. Consistency is a virtue, they say.

The CIF, apparently having learned nothing from the backlash of 2024, reimplemented the same pilot program from last year’s championships, awarding podium recognition to every girl who finished directly behind Hernandez.

The political theater surrounding championship weekend was something to behold. Democrat California gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer appeared in a video with Hernandez on Friday morning. That same afternoon, Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton headlined a rally outside the preliminary round advocating for the protection of girls’ sports.

Saturday brought a press conference organized by LGBTQ advocacy groups Pride at the Pier and Rainbow Families Action, which devolved into a heated shouting match between Hernandez supporters and “Save Girls Sports” activists. Clovis Police Department vehicles were parked nearby, and officers responded when the confrontation escalated. It eventually fizzled out without arrests, which, given California’s track record, might actually be considered a win.

Now that Hernandez’s high school career is officially over, California faces a reckoning it has been aggressively avoiding. The U.S. Department of Justice is currently suing California education agencies over policies permitting transgender athletes to compete against biological females. Hernandez’s own school district, Jurupa Unified, is under active investigation by the Department of Education.

The biological girls who trained for years, hoping to stand atop that podium, deserved better. Fortunately, the federal government seems to agree, even if Sacramento doesn’t.

(DC Pundit) – The last person California Democrats expected to lose sleep over is Spencer Pratt, the former reality television personality from MTV’s The Hills. Yet here we are, and the political establishment in Los Angeles is starting to sweat through their organic cotton shirts.

Pratt has spent the past several weeks doing something the city’s entrenched Democratic machine convinced itself was flatly impossible: making incumbent Mayor Karen Bass look genuinely vulnerable. Conventional wisdom held that a candidate with no governing experience, running as an independent in one of the most reliably blue cities in America, had zero realistic path to victory. Conventional wisdom, it turns out, failed to account for just how thoroughly fed-up Los Angeles voters actually are.

The fundraising numbers tell a story that should have Bass’s team stress-eating at their desks. Between April 19 and May 15, Pratt’s campaign raised roughly $2.7 million. Over that same stretch, Bass pulled in just $282,000. Bass has been raising money since 2024, with a total haul of approximately $2.8 million. Pratt nearly matched her entire war chest in less than a month. The two candidates are now separated by less than $100,000 in cash on hand, Pratt sitting on roughly $1.42 million, Bass on approximately $1.32 million. Not exactly the position an incumbent mayor expects to be in heading into a primary.

Then came the polls, which showed Bass leading by only single digits, meaning Pratt could very realistically advance to a runoff. In a city where Democratic registration is so lopsided that Republican candidates don’t even bother showing up on general election ballots, that’s a five-alarm fire.

The Democrat establishment heard the message and responded with their go-to panic move: a Gavin Newsom endorsement, issued just five days before the June 2nd primary. Newsom praised Bass for what he called “an 18% decline in homelessness while it grew nationally, historic drops in violent crime, boosting film production in L.A., and protecting our communities against ICE,” adding, “She has my full support for reelection.” The timing of that endorsement reeks of desperation, and everyone knows it.

Pratt was thoroughly unimpressed. He fired back, calling Newsom and Bass “alleged criminal partners” and connecting them to both the catastrophic January wildfires and the city’s bottomless homelessness crisis. “It’s not shocking because their alleged criminal partners, not only did they work together in their negligence and burning down 7,000 houses and 12 people alive, but they’re both complicit in laundering, what, 24 billion dollars to actually increase homelessness,” Pratt said.

Challenging Newsom’s homelessness statistics directly, Pratt stated, “Those are not real numbers. Anybody with eyeballs in the state of California or Los Angeles knows that there has not been a reduction in one homeless person. Actually, there’s been an increase of naked drug addict zombies in front of every kid’s playground, every kid’s school, every coffee shop.”

He capped it off with: “They both should be in jail together.”

A runoff now appears likely. November will be a referendum on whether California’s progressive one-party disaster can survive a direct confrontation with its own results. The polls say the Democrats have reason to worry. Spencer Pratt is making sure of it.

(DC Pundit) – Here’s a concept that apparently never occurred to Washington politicians for the past several decades: before you start talking about cutting benefits for American seniors who spent their entire working lives paying into the system, how about first going after the criminals who have been stealing from those seniors?

Radical idea, we know.

President Donald Trump is making exactly that case, and he’s backing it up with action. During a Cabinet meeting this week, Trump highlighted the work of Vice President JD Vance and the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, crediting the initiative with uncovering tens of billions of dollars in fraudulent government spending in just a matter of months. The administration is already stopping suspicious payments, prosecuting fraudsters, and exposing waste burrowed throughout federal programs.

Trump was direct about the priority order. “Instead of talking about taking benefits away from Americans who paid into the system their entire lives, we’re focused on stopping the fraud that’s draining taxpayer dollars,” he said.

That is a message every conservative, and frankly every American with a pulse, should be able to get behind enthusiastically.

The task force itself was established through an executive order Trump signed in March, with Vice President Vance serving as chair. It brings together representatives from a remarkable range of federal agencies, including the Departments of Treasury, Justice, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Veterans Affairs, Labor, Education, Housing and Urban Development, Agriculture, and more. The mission is straightforward: identify and eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse across federal benefit programs by strengthening eligibility verification, improving data sharing between agencies, implementing pre-payment controls, and going after the criminal networks that have spent years treating taxpayer-funded programs like their personal piggy banks.

Vance credited the early success to something that sounds simple but has apparently been beyond Washington’s capabilities for generations: getting federal agencies that historically operated in their own separate silos to talk to each other and coordinate their efforts.

The initiative got an additional boost this week when the General Services Administration announced it would formally join the task force, pledging to bring its expertise in federal contracting, technology, procurement, and oversight to help identify fraud and tighten accountability across government operations.

Trump was measured in his claims, stopping short of suggesting that fraud elimination alone will permanently resolve Social Security’s long-term financial challenges. That’s an honest and responsible position, the program’s structural issues are real and will require serious long-term solutions. But recovering the billions currently being stolen is an absolutely essential first step, and it’s one that delivers immediate, tangible results for American taxpayers.

For years, the Washington establishment’s answer to every entitlement funding question was some variation of “we need to cut benefits or raise taxes.” Trump and Vance are proving there’s a third option that nobody in power seemed particularly motivated to pursue, stop letting criminals walk off with the money in the first place.

Better late than never.

(DC Pundit) – Five people are dead, including two children, and more than 40 others are injured after a catastrophic bus crash on I-95 in Virginia early Friday morning. And as the details emerge, the story gets worse, much worse.

The bus driver, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from China, reportedly does not speak English. Yet somehow, he was behind the wheel of a commercial bus carrying dozens of passengers. How does that happen?

According to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, the driver obtained his Commercial Driver’s License in Democrat-run New York, in 2024.

The crash unfolded when the driver failed to slow down in time, slamming into a Suburban, which was then pushed into an Acura SUV. “The Acura caught fire,” ABC News disclosed. Four of the five fatalities were inside that Acura — “a 45-year-old man, a 44-year-old woman, a 13-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, all from Greenfield, Massachusetts.” A 25-year-old woman in the Suburban was the fifth victim. “Forty-four people were taken to hospitals, including three with critical injuries,” ABC reported.

A family of four, including two young children, burned to death on an American interstate because a man who doesn’t speak English was handed a CDL in New York. Let that sink in.

English proficiency requirements for CDL holders exist for a reason. Federal regulations technically require commercial drivers to read and speak English “sufficiently” to understand highway signs and communicate with officials.

This is the entirely predictable result of prioritizing box-checking over basic competence and public safety. Somewhere, a licensing bureaucrat stamped “approved” on this application and called it a day, likely proud of how inclusive the whole thing felt.

Seven-year-old children don’t get second chances. Bureaucracies always do.

(DC Pundit) – James Talarico, the far-left Texas state representative who is running for U.S. Senate and has made championing transgender ideology a centerpiece of his political identity, wants you to believe something remarkable: that Republican voters in Texas are secretly flocking to his campaign. Quietly. Discreetly. Like political fugitives on the run.

Sure they are, James.

This is the kind of desperate, wishful-thinking claim that campaigns typically trot out when the internal polling numbers are making everyone in their war room reach for the antacids. Remember “White Dudes for Kamala Harris”? That particular political masterstroke didn’t exactly deliver the White House, did it?

Talarico made the claim, telling anyone who would listen that his Senate campaign is attracting support from former Trump voters who are growing disillusioned with the president. He described these alleged supporters as whispering to him at rallies “like they’re in the witness protection program.”

That’s quite a colorful image. Also quite unverifiable, which is presumably the point.

“A lot of the president’s supporters in Texas are feeling disillusioned, they’re feeling disillusioned with this extremism and this corruption that is embodied by politicians like Ken Paxton,” Talarico said. “And so, we have a real opportunity to build a big coalition of Democrats, independents and Republicans who are fed up with this extremism and this corruption.”

Here’s the fundamental problem with Talarico’s narrative, beyond the fact that it’s essentially unverifiable by design: even if a Trump supporter in Texas were feeling some level of frustration with the administration, which happens with every president among some portion of their base, the idea that those voters would leap across the political canyon and land squarely in the camp of a candidate like James Talarico strains all credulity.

Nobody shifts that dramatically. A disillusioned conservative in Texas isn’t sitting at the kitchen table thinking, “You know what I need? A state representative who uses Bible verses to defend radical left-wing ideology.” That’s just not how political gravity works.

Speaking of which, has anyone else noticed that the only time Talarico ever reaches for his faith or religious beliefs is when he’s trying to provide spiritual cover for something the progressive left wants to push? It’s a pattern that has become impossible to ignore and increasingly difficult to take seriously.

Texas conservatives aren’t whispering support for James Talarico at his rallies. They’re voting for candidates who actually share their values. And no amount of creative storytelling is going to change that reality come Election Day.

According to sources familiar with the matter, federal investigators are looking into whether Carroll committed perjury when she testified about funding for her legal fights.

The probe, first highlighted by CNN, centers on Carroll’s 2022 statements claiming she received no outside financial help for her lawsuits. That assertion raised eyebrows after her own legal team later admitted that billionaire Democrat donor and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman chipped in to cover some costs. It seems the scrutiny is finally catching up to one of the more colorful chapters in the long-running lawfare saga aimed at the president.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche wisely stepped aside from the case, citing his prior work as Trump’s personal attorney. The Justice Department, sticking to standard procedure, declined to comment on the active investigation. Carroll’s lawyer, Robbie Kaplan, has stayed quiet on the news as well.

For those who have followed this saga, it all traces back to Carroll’s accusation that Trump sexually assaulted her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in mid-1990s New York. Trump has denied it from the start.

“Number one, she’s not my type. Number two, it never happened,” Trump said when first responding to the accusation in 2019.

That straightforward denial led to a defamation suit from Carroll. She followed up with a second lawsuit after New York Democrats passed the Adult Survivors Act, which conveniently reopened old claims. In 2023, one jury hit Trump with a $5 million verdict for sexual abuse and defamation. Another awarded Carroll $83.3 million in early 2024 over his continued public pushback.

President Trump has pushed back hard in the courts, with his team seeking mistrials and filing appeals. A petition on the judgments is still pending at the U.S. Supreme Court. Just this month, the Justice Department signaled it would ask the high court to let the federal government step in as defendant under the Westfall Act. The argument? Trump’s comments were made while serving as president, which could protect him from personal liability.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit turned down a full rehearing but paused collection on that big $83 million judgment while the Supreme Court weighs in. Now this fresh criminal probe into Carroll adds yet another layer to what many on the right view as a textbook example of weaponized courts and deep-pocketed donors trying to tie up a president they couldn’t beat at the ballot box.

It’s hard not to chuckle at the irony. After years of Democrats cheering every lawsuit against Trump as some noble pursuit of justice, the federal government under his own administration is now examining whether the accuser played fast and loose with the truth about who was really bankrolling her efforts.

Carroll, once a columnist for Elle magazine, became a household name in progressive circles, but skeptics have long questioned the timing and details. For conservatives, this latest move by the DOJ signals a welcome shift: accountability that doesn’t just flow in one direction. Whether it leads to charges or simply more transparency, it underscores the persistent double standards that have defined much of the opposition to Trump since day one.

(DC Pundit) – It takes a special kind of audacity to steal $40 million worth of gold from the CIA, stash it in your Virginia home, and show up to work every day with a straight face. Federal prosecutors say that’s allegedly what one senior officer did, all while holding a top-secret security clearance and a résumé that apparently had about as much truth in it as a Hollywood script.

David Rush, a former senior CIA officer who held a management position at the agency and carried top-secret security clearance, has been arrested and charged with criminal theft of public money after federal agents raided his Fairfax County, Virginia home on May 18 and walked out with a haul that would make a Bond villain blush.

The numbers are staggering. Roughly 300 gold bars valued at more than $40 million. Around $2 million in cash. Thirty-five luxury watches, predominantly Rolexes. Investigators had previously discovered only a portion of the funds in a storage space near his office, which apparently prompted them to check the home. Good call.

According to federal investigators, Rush used his position at the CIA to request large quantities of gold and foreign currency between November and March, claiming the assets were needed for “work-related expenses.” He then allegedly diverted and stashed them at his residence. The CIA’s own internal audit couldn’t account for the gold or the significant foreign currency, which led CIA Director John Ratcliffe to refer the matter directly to the FBI for criminal investigation.

But the gold is only half the story. Rush is also accused of running a long-term fraud scheme in which he allegedly falsified time sheets, inflated his hours, and constructed an almost entirely fabricated professional background over the course of nearly two decades, all to secure and maintain his high-level position and the generous compensation that came with it.

He claimed degrees from Clemson University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, attendance at the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School, service as a thesis adviser, and experience as a Navy pilot. None of it was true. He even allegedly faked Navy Reserve service to collect improper military leave pay.

Rush applied to the government three times, only succeeding on his third attempt in 2009 after adding even more embellishments to his already heavily padded résumé. Despite all of it being fabricated, he climbed to a senior management role with top-secret clearance.

How does someone with a completely fictional background clear multiple rounds of screening and rise to senior management at the CIA?

Director Ratcliffe did the right thing by referring this to the FBI. Now the justice system needs to do its part.

CA Governor Candidate Pushes Free Healthcare For Illegals, Proudly Boasts They’re Replacing American Workers! (VIDEO)

(DC Pundit) – Xavier Becerra has never been particularly shy about where his loyalties lie, and a recent CNN appearance made that crystal clear once again. The former California Attorney General and Biden-era Secretary of Health and Human Services, now running for governor of California as a Democrat, confirmed on air that he wants the state to keep providing free healthcare to illegal immigrants.

Shocking. Truly. Nobody saw that coming.

During the same segment, Becerra openly admitted that illegal immigrants take jobs away from American workers. And not just in agriculture, as the left typically tries to limit the conversation. He acknowledged it happens in construction, healthcare, and beyond.

Think about that, a Democrat gubernatorial candidate in California sat down on CNN and essentially confirmed two things conservatives have been saying for years: illegal immigrants compete directly with American citizens for jobs across multiple industries, and California Democrats are perfectly happy to keep rewarding that with taxpayer-funded free healthcare. All while wearing what can only be described as the most self-satisfied expression television has aired in recent memory, apparently convinced he was being extraordinarily clever.

Becerra has spent his entire career as a reliable foot soldier for the progressive left. As California’s Attorney General, he spent considerable energy suing the Trump administration at every available opportunity rather than focusing on the exploding crime, homelessness, and cost-of-living crises decimating his own state. As Biden’s HHS Secretary, he presided over a department that pushed COVID policies and vaccine mandates.

Now he wants to run California, a state that is hemorrhaging residents, businesses, and tax revenue at a genuinely alarming rate, largely because decades of one-party Democrat rule have turned it into one of the most expensive, poorly managed, and increasingly dangerous places to live in the entire country.

California desperately needs new leadership and a dramatically different direction. Becerra would be nothing more than a continuation of the same failed policies that have been driving the Golden State into the ground for years. More spending, more sanctuary policies, more free services for people who entered the country illegally, and more of the smug condescension toward the working-class Californians who actually foot the bill for all of it.

If California voters have any interest in reversing their state’s decline, they would do well to take a serious look at Steve Hilton, the former Fox News host and political adviser who has been one of the most articulate and energetic voices for genuine reform in the state. Hilton has built his entire political identity around the idea that California’s problems are solvable, but only if the political class that created them is finally shown the door.

Becerra on CNN was a perfect reminder of exactly why that change is so badly needed.
